I do think that there's an ultimate plan for this song. Remember when Demi performed Stone Cold at the iHeartRadio presentation for new music and that was the moment we knew SC was going to be the 3rd single? Tom Poleman (director of something at iHeart) captioned the photo of her performing on Instagram "not sure how to approach this song professionally yet, but those vocals get me everytime" or something like that.
This leads me to believe that they decided how to tackle the song professionally. If they couldn't formulate a plan, they probably would've advised against the single.
