I remember watching this year-end list and thinking that the #1 was very predictable, which isn't necessarily a terrible thing...
Good selection overall, though: Gwen Stefani, The Darkness, Five for Fighting, Evanescence, The Killers (despite their #15 peak), Norah Jones, Bowling for Soup, OutKast, Green Day, Linkin Park, Beastie Boys, Modest Mouse, Maroon 5, Joss Stone, Destinu's Child, etc.
Finally (and even though I like her song), how the hell did Jessica Simpson Successica Legendson make it to #11????
Here's what to expect for next week:
* A brand spanking new #1 video to start off the year!
* A whopping SIX countdown debuts, including:
>> The first American Idol winner telling her ex-boyfriend what's happened since his absence.
>> The long-awaited (kinda) return to music of Tommy Lee, Mick Mars, Nikki Sixx, and Vince Neil's glam metal band, which was very popular back in the late '80s.
>> No Doubt's frontwoman's take on a song from The Fiddler on the Roof.
>> A "hip-hop/country" collabo by two of the biggest male solo acts from each genre (at least back then).
>> The first video this year to include a cameo by Eric Roberts (Think of these lyrics: "Jealousy, turning saints into the sea...")
>> And two hip-hop heavyweights telling you what you should do "when the pimp's in the crib ma."
* And, of course, we must also say goodbye to six videos, none of which were in the top 5 during the last countdown of 2004 (so yeah, you figure which...).
This is seriously a REALLY weird countdown... How does it make sense that after a three-week absence, some videos rise and fall 7 or 8 spots, and others only 1 or 2??? Oh well, I guess that's why I love the VH1 Top 20!!!
As far as the debuts go, yay for The Killers, Kelly Clarkson, Snoop Dogg, and Gwen Stefani. Sad to see Gwen, Avril, Kelly, and John Mellencamp fall off, though... And at U2's massive drop and Destiny's Child's almost-as-massive leap!
Anyway, here's what to expect for next week:
* A brand-new #1 video (I know, it seems kinda anti-climactic after we had a video DEBUT at #1, but whatevs...)
* A countdown debut by a lady from the Bronx, who plays like eight different characters in this one video.
* Another debut from arguably the biggest band to come from Ireland, playing on top of a flatbed truck that took them across NYC, to the surprise (and delight) of many New Yorkers.
* And we say goodbye to two videos in the countdown's bottom half.
And this week's debuts (Oh boy, this one's gonna take a while...):
Nelly featuring Tim McGraw, "Over and Over"
Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell, "Drop It Like It's Hot"
