New Workout Plan is so fun, shame it didn't make the top 10. Also, did not expect Usher to go out before 50. I was lowkey hoping that U Got It Bad would win if Jesus Walks didn't (top 5 is still great though). No Such Thing was by far my favorite off of his album and honestly was in my personal top 10 for this rate so I'm happy it made it.
"She got a light-skinned friend look like Michael Jackson. Got a dark-skinned friend look like Michael Jackson"
Leaving the rate at position 3 is Ye's first #1 hit as a lead artist . The smooth melodic track from his and Twista's album contains a smooth verse from Ye, a catchy hook from Jamie Foxx and a fast-paced verse from Twista, all of which are considered memorable parts of the song and album. I was actually very surprised to see all the love the track got. It's a jam for sure but I didn't know ya'll used it like that
"If I got locked up and sentenced to a quarter century, could I count on you to be there to support me mentally?"
The next song to leave our rate is 12 21 Questions, 50's second #1 hit and the follow up to In Da Club. I don't think I need to state just how memorable this song is do I? The instrumental is super catchy and the hook by Nate Dogg (R.I.P. </3) is one of his best/well-known hooks. Fun fact: this was the only single from the album to not have the Parental Advisory sticker on its cover since the only profanity was the word "n*gga" in the first verse. In addition, this is one of the few times in which 50 gets sentimental and expresses his love or at least inquires to his significant other on whether or not she'll be there for him when he really needs her.
Wicked said: 50's best song! The bulk of Get Rich' is about 50 and his story, but this is a very surprising but much needed love song; like they say "thugs need love too!" but, it's tremendously endearing & has the same authenticity and raw nature of the rest of the album. 21 gets extra points since he didn't go the usual route of making the "I'm a thug & you're my chick; the end" song, he gets more detailed asking questions based on his aspirations for a relationship. I've already typed too much but I've ripped this song apart and can't find a flaw. One of my favorite songs ever. And a Nate Dogg feature is an automatic 11, sorry Ye!
THAT MEANS THE WINNER OF THE MALE POP ICONS RATE OF THE 2000s is....
1) All Falls Down (feat. Syleena Johnson)- 9.889
Sorry Wicked
"I got a problem with spendin' before I get it. We all self-conscious, I'm just the first to admit it"
Back when Stacy was still invited to the cookout
The winner of the Male Pop Icons Rate of the 2000s is none other than All Falls Down. I promise I didn't rig this. Ya'll just had enough sense to make the best song in this rate win, and by a pretty sizable margin as well.
This track more or less encapsulates why I love Kanye. A witty, introspective reflection on not only himself but society as well backed by superb instrumentation and a good beat. What more can you ask for. The track is packed with quotables as well as a soulful hook too. The song peaked at #7, becoming his second top ten in the U.S., and also snagged him a nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, ultimately losing to Usher's Yeah!.
