"Deeper and Deeper" was the second single released off
Erotica. It's a loud disco, dance-pop song, with a powerful message about love, growing up and learning with life. It was not very successful worldwide (possibly due to the public backlash), but it peaked at #7 in the US and #6 in the UK.
She performed it live twice: the first time was at The Girlie Show Tour, at the second act of the Disco segment, and the second was at The Re-Invention Tour, using a jazz-inspired, slow version of the song on the Circus segment.
The video is one of my all-time favorites from Madonna. It was heavily inspired by the work of Andy Warhol, and features Madonna as a big city girl who seems to have some kind of devotion to a seemily disturbed and megalomaniac man. She carries some balloons to everywhere she goes, including a dance club, where most of the video happens.
It's comforting to me that this underrated and forgotten masterpiece made its way into the Top 20, at least. Beautiful and amazing song. 9,5 from me, but now I think it could really be a 10.
Didn't Madge even say that she thought the lyrics to this song were really stupid and she didn't like it?
