[I Got Soul]

Hey everybody! Just got back from holiday yesterday afternoon, had a fantastic trip. Still a little jet-lagged, but I'll adjust. I'll post pics and everything from my 3 weeks in Spain + Portugal when I've had time to go through them and organize them.

August 14th - August 20th, 2009

The top 5 is full of shake ups this week. I think it goes without saying that Cobra Starship spending a fourth week at #1 is quite a surprise. Their lengthy run has been fostered by a weaker than expected top 5, and the fact that the track is without a doubt the catchiest thing to come out all summer. But now, the top 5 has two massive entries. Paramore continues the brisk pace and scoots up three spots to #3, scoring their fifth top 5 hit. While the Arctic Monkeys are also up three to #5, securing their sixth top 5 hit. Both tracks will be in a duel for the top track of late summer in the coming weeks, and with Kings of Leon losing their bullet as they inch up to #2, they could very well occupy the top 2 spots well into September.

Two debuts, and from rather high-profile acts. First up is Muse with an epic return to the scene, Uprising. More along the lines of classic Muse a la Knights of Cydonia then their more commercial moments of brilliance (Starlight). Muse have scored three top 10 hits in the past, with their biggest hit being Starlight which prematurely peaked at #3. Second on board is Madonna who has ditched her hip hop influences in favor of a pure club track, Celebration - and it goes without saying that it's her best release since Hung Up, a track which spent 4 weeks at #1.

Sorry it's late, been busy moving and getting ready for school in the fall. Paramore hit #1, marking the second time the band has hit the top spot after Misery Business hit the top in 2007. The top 5 is fluttering with activity as Arctic Monkeys zoom 3 spots to the #2 slot, and Taylor Swift is up a big four to #4 with You Belong With Me. Phoenix also make the top 5 this week, but it looks like 1901 has run out of gas.

Three debuts. Two big rock acts and one dance track that is sure to take over the world this fall.

August 28th - September 3rd, 2009

The hype surrounding the release of "Humbug", the third album from Arctic Monkeys, and their headlining slots at the Readings/Leeds festival this weekend was more than enough to help dethrone Paramore from #1 after only a week up top. Crying Lightning are the Sheffield lads second #1 after Brianstorm hit #1 for 3 weeks in 2007. Even though Paramore are still bulleted, they still fall to #3 as red-hot Taylor Swift is up another pair to #2 with the crossover smash You Belong With Me. And new to the top 5 this week is U2 marking their second single to hit the top 5 off "No Line on the Horizon" after Magnificient hit #5 earlier this year.

Two moderate profile debuts this week. Panic! At The Disco are back with a more conservative pop-rock affair in "New Perspective". They were huge with their debut album, scoring three top 5's including the #1 The Only Difference... But Nine In The Afternoon fizzled out at #7 and the rest from "Pretty.Odd" was history. Next up are The Cribs, whose last album I thoroughly enjoyed and I'm A Realist even made it to #6. Now they're back with the lead single Cheat On Me, off their album to be released in September.
