To be honest, it's not like the song has anything to do with a Dark Horse or being a Dark Horse either. It's used completely incorrectly in the lyrics, the video fits perfectly with what the song's actually about.

I think part of the appeal for the song is the almost dark vibe you get from it and the video kinda ruined that, at least for me

Just realised that the video makes no sense at all.

The concept of the song is that Katy's lover doesn't 'know what [he's] falling for' and that she'll pounce on him like a 'dark horse', i.e. her power is unanticipated/unexpected.

Yet the video portrays Katy as an omnipotent lover who has the upper hand and who is catered to by people who shower her with gifts, because they know what they're falling for and how powerful Katy is. It doesn't match the song at all.

I remember being dragged for saying this should have had a disney-styled, animated witch-themed video. My point still stands.

One of the best music videos I've seen in a while (from the pop girls) and I dislike the song.

For those expecting something dark - it's a Katy Perry video, it would've ended up like that maze scene from Wide Awake or the Unconditionally video..

Not trying to shade, but at least Dark Horse has some storyline unlike, for instance, Applause, another video that relied too much on imagery and beauty shots. In the end, with all the cheetos, modern sneakers, pole dancing, hydraulic chariot, puppy cameos, isn't it obvious that this video wasn't meant to be taken seriously? This was supposed to be cheesy, funny, and bombastic...basically, the campy Katy Perry. If you don't get the intention of this video (which is to humor you), then you're not the right demographic. Just move on.

You guys overanalyze. If you want the serious Katy, go watch Unconditionally, TOTGA, TOY, POM, TD, etc.
