There was nothing that could be done to stop them. They pretty much have a monopoly when it comes to music charts.

She would've had SEVEN #1 albums in a row if it wasn't for that. The thing that pissed me off was that they said she would be #1 but then obviously the rule change came in. Incredibly unprofessional and symbolic of the industry even getting in on the anti-Britney bandwagon of that era if you ask me.

She didn't even need a promo performance. Her incompetent team just chose to release her album during the most competitive time of the year. Burning Lights went #1 with 73,000 copies in January, What About Now went #1 with 101,000 copies in March, Stars Dance went #1 with 97,000 copies in August, etc. The 107,000 copies that Britney Jean sold would have easily been enough to go #1 had her team had a clue and released during a less competitive week.

The fact this is also the case everywhere else. I know it would've sold less but the numbers are terrible anyway. At least she could have had another #1 album in the US and Canada + her first #1 album in the UK.

She could have still sold that much anytime of the year had her team also priced the album fairly. The standard should have been $7.99 for the 10 songs and the deluxe should have been $9.99 for the 13.5 songs. The fact that the standard edition was (and still is) priced at $10.99. You're still paying over $1 per song even though you are buying the entire album.
