Overall, I think there are better options for singles from 1989, though. There isn't enough time to release HYGtG over the other (imo) better choices.

It's different from Red where the only 3 obvious pop singles were the 3 Max tracks, & the rest were up for grabs. I remember thinking State of Grace and Red would've worked on pop radio, but I guess it was wise not to release those, since she probably knew at the time that she was going to move away from the sound of those tracks and more towards the MM ones.

I'm still not sure why 22 wasn't huge besides that maybe people didn't relate to it enough or it was too bubblegum.

i only listened to it once and it did not hit me like Blank Space hit me after the first listen...that's why, as of right now, it's hard for me to take everyone seriously when they say it will be much bigger than Blank Space

I would be embarrassed tbh. I feel like it would make people think they're justified in finding Taylor stupid, childish, whatever. Blank Space on the other hand shows a great sense of awareness of her media persona, which people have been waiting for, followed by Style which is her first sort of ~sexy single. After that I don't really see much else on the album being an instant smash. I'd like to see OOTW be a single though, followed by Clean to wrap things up even if it flops.
