She even put out an album in 1995 to place the focus back at her ballads/music.

it took Madonna awhile to be respected as an artist because she was viewed as a calculated nymphomaniac that couldn't sell unless she sparked controversy.

I love madonna but even I remember looking at old youtube clips of that. My era was the Ray of light but I still no my homework pre ray of light.

They should have just let the era fail and moved forward. Their little plan on making the era seem like a success backfired big time, and made people question why she went platinum in the first place. That whole thing about selling 400k copies barely made sense to begin with, since I don't even think she would have sold that much with streams included. They could have just left the album free, since she already got paid ANYWAY, or bragged about the number of downloads without buying certifications. Then people would have seen anti's numbers and thought, "this is good for an album that most people downloaded for free."

Madonna might have been seen as a bimbo early on but she proved them wrong immediately.
