When did I ever say you didn't like it? I said it's not a deep song as some of you trying to make it out to be. Everyone's first reaction to song was to dance. No one thought "OMG it's so deep!"

Ever since the single debuted, I thought to myself, "what the **** is 'we found love in a hopeless place' supposed to mean"?
That sentence didn't make much of a sense. I thought it meant about falling in love with a someone in a club, which is a hopeless place to find love because everyone is searching for ****, not love.
But I was wrong.
From the way the video visuals it, it means that you build your relationship of what you thought was 'love' over a hopeless thing which is drugs or alcohol, which brings the short termed love and excitement feeling towards another, but shortly ceases and leaves unhealthy feeling of frustration and fury. It means that the foundation of the relationship is hopeless and weak and can crash any minute. I may be over analyzing it, but thats what that line means to me after the video.
Also, it gave a new meaning to the lines:
"What it takes to come alive"
"Its the way I'm feeling I just can't deny, but I gotta let go"
"Turn away cause I need you more"

I always thought that the hopeless place was built by the media by always wondering who Rihanna is dating, and that a lot of guys would be scared off by all the media attention that the relationship would receive, but Rihanna still found love.

My point exactly. Its not as black and white as people may think. The song has deeper meaning hence it having substance and her singing it over a dance beat, does not change that.

For everyone dragging WFL for being boring and lacking substance, I think you should wait for the album to come out, and look at WFL among all the songs, and see how it fits in the album as a whole. It will prob make more sense then.
