Mama was better than expected but not good enough to warrant a house at Universal's Halloween Horror Nights even though it was distributed by Universal. That says a lot.
All the horror movies I've seen this year (A lot imo! ) were all horror comedies. Except for Hansel and Gretel even tho it had humor I gotta grow a pair and see some real horror film. I've seen a plentitude of gore already,
So I just saw The Purge today, and I liked it. I was expecting much worse after reading all of the reviews on it. But it managed to thrill me during some parts, and I left pondering the movie's themes.
The fact that you felt the need to go running to Mouldy Tomatoes to gather up their opinion says a lot about you as a person... I mean do you really value someone elses opinion that much over your own...?? Fume just a tad baby FUME

Just found out the studio actually spend 22million on marketing The Purge..... which is 7 times of its budget..... What kind of all marketing gimmick mess

What did they even spent that on. I haven't seen anything marketing-wise. Ut was just hyped up.
Horror remakes that either match or surpass the original:
-The Thing
-The Fly
-Last House on the Left
-The Ring
-Funny Games
-I Spit On Your Grave
-Hills Have Eyes
-Dawn of the Dead
-House of Wax
-Invasion of the Body Snatchers
-Little Shop of Horrors
-Cape Fear
-The Man Who Knew Too Much
And dat's it.
I actually agree with a lot of these, but you also need to add The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to that. Atmospheric, intense and gritty, and as much as the original is lauded for what it was and the documentary-style creepiness, as a whole it kind of drags as a movie. The story definitely benefited from some updating with the remake (and I mean the Biel/Balfour remake, not the 3D sequel that came out last year).
