Nobody has to rehash a song, but (sadly) as an industry pop music has become so conformed to churning out something safe for the sake of selling well. And of course that's just as prominent in K-pop. It doesn't necessarily make the songs bad though.

I mean that it doesn't have to be just SM for people to call SM in particular out.
I actually think that's worse of a problem on XOXO than MAMA. That's a decent first mini and MAMA, History, Angel and Machine all do a good job of each exploring something different sonically and being great songs. In my opinion anyway. I think I've came to the conclusion recently that's my favourite release from them.
Oh I agree, but it seems more like Mama is now that they've released more since then. It's easily their most consistent and best album if you get rid of Two Moons. Still, it took me forever to distinguish Mama, History and Machine other than by their hooks. They all scream "OMG SO EPIC" and that's the rehash right there.

I can kind of follow Machine and History being vaguely vaguely similar but I don't know how you mixed MAMA up in there.

And you say Doom Dada is terrible when it's about the only song in recent memory that was about getting back to the music and not making music to sell.
