Kesha: My Crazy Beautiful Life S03E04

Last Sunday on Kesha: My Crazy Beautiful Life:
Kesha collapsed during a conversation about her eating habits with her mother and her best friend. As they tried to feed Kesha, she refuses to eat and throws up. The doctor was called and he tells her she’s in a severe situation that needs helping as soon as possible. He suggests a rehab facility where she’ll be treated for her eating disorder as well as healing and resting.
As Pebe and Savannah hear this, they both burst out in tears, but realize that this is the best for Kesha’s health. The pair decide to call her best friend Josh Hutcherson, who was at that time filming the 3rd Hunger Games movie, near Kesha’s house. Worried about Kesha as he is, he stops filming and rushes to her. When Pebe tells him what’s going on, Josh immediately wants to go into her room.
In the room, the pair have a few words and Josh sees that Kesha is doing really bad. Dr. John suggested Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center. Pebe calls them and asks them if there’s room left for Kesha. Of course there is, it sounds on the other end of the phone line. “When are you bringing her?” “As soon as possible” says Pebe.
In the next scene we see Kesha agreeing to help herself and go to the rehab facility. Savannah, Louis, Pebe and Josh all join her in the car as Pebe drives them towards the facility. Meanwhile Josh calls Dr. Luke to tell him Kesha is no longer working for him as she is heading to a rehab facility for her eating disorder, something HE caused. Josh is livid and looks like he’s ready to kill.
Once arrived at the rehab facility, Kesha is seen saying goodbye to everyone, while in a wheelchair as she doesn’t have the energy to walk anymore. She has first been put on liquid food to help her gain strength again. As Kesha heads towards the doors that lead her away from her friends and family, she waves goodbye, as Josh tells her he will visit her soon.

NATALIA KILLS "KO-MOTION WORLD TOUR" REVIEWED BY THE CHICAGO TRUBUNE

There was a bearded nun and 6-foot-plus drag queen in hot pants and stacked heels. There were bunny ears, pig noses, military officers caps and a dominatrix in fishnets and leather. Glitter? Check. Tutus? Check. Tie-dye boas? Check. Christmas-light bracelets and necklaces? Of course!
And that was all before Natalia Kills took the stage Friday at the packed United Center, the show within the show. The fans came prepared because many of them knew that their diminutive heroine in the wigs, space-suits and feathered wings is one of them, and eager to celebrate not just their presence, but their otherness.
She performed the anthem “Devils Don't Fly” seated with gospel-soaked fervor in her voice. Turning to a fan next to her in the crowd, she said, “When I look at you I see myself,” and then to the audience: “There’s nothing wrong with loving who you are.”
Later, she turned “Uproar” into another reflecting mirror. Rather than a song about her star power, she turned the audience in its subject. “Cheer for yourself, cheer for each other,” she urged as the electronic beats danced underneath her.
Natalia’s inclusiveness presented a sharp contrast to the events that occurred 35 years ago not far from the arena. During “Disco Demolition Night” on July 12, 1979, in Comiskey Park, disco albums were burned and the subcultures that created the style of dance music Natalia champions – primarily pop lovers and African-Americans – were tacitly denigrated. But Chicago is also home to house music, the disco offshoot that birthed the electronic rhythms in much of Natalia’s recent music.
On a stage that resembled a ruined country after war, Natalia delivered a more concise, less prop-filled set than her previous tour. It did, however, come equipped with its own roadie wielding two leaf blowers to clear the stage of the mounds of confetti that rained down throughout the show.
The 95-minute set, supported by a five-piece band and a dozen dancers, animated the songs from this year's "Ko-Motion" album. “You can't stop me,” she declared at the start, and made good on her claim as she embraced bluesy rawness in “Trashy Expensive,” the gothic electro-pop of Depeche Mode in the title track and arena rock in “Uproar”. On “Cosmic,” she veered from bubbling dance rhythms into the type of soaring chorus that ABBA might covet.
“This ain’t no normal pop music,” Natalia sneered, and indeed, her melodies boasted a harder edge and reached deeper into the underground than many of her arena-pop peers. Her fashion sense is less about sexuality than individuality. How else to explain the sheek yet sexy ensembles she wore throughout the 95 minute show? Her music can be just as bold and abrasive, especially in the way she turned “Stop Me” into a tribal stomp or underlined the feminist cry in “Uproar” with grinding synthesizers.
Natalia’s early promise is that she offered a twisted take on diva posturing and marketing on her way to selling more than 20 million albums. She was the anti-diva who owed as much to David Bowie, Grace Jones and Klaus Nomi as she did her predecessors and peers in the pop arena. That promise has been entirely fulfilled on her recent album. But her show had a lean, linear drive that placed the emphasis squarely on the music as augmented by her entertainingly beautiful costume choices. Backing tracks were in evidence, but her band and most importantly Natalia herself weren’t canned. She made sure everyone knew it, too, her heavy breathing clearly audible over her head-set microphone.
There was one other bit of transparency, when she performed a complete costume change at center stage. Two handlers helped with the clothes, but the singer ripped off her own hairband and let her golden locks flow. Like her fans, she was just being herself.
Natalia Kills' set list Sunday at the United Center
1. Stop Me
2. Uproar
3. Controversy
4. Mirrors/Problem

10. Marlboro Lights
11. Devils Don't Fly
12. Burn Out
13. Savages
