Kidding, of course. Just a little joke to lighten up the thread after the tragic loss of EOTL.

RED ONE! SUGABABES!

5.909
10 - Maneater, Right Direction, Regina George
1 - Mikal
Released as the second/lead single from the ill-fated Sweet 7 album, About a Girl seemed to legit impress no one. Even its biggest supporters had caveats: Regina George called it "one of [her] biggest guilty pleasures." posh admitted that if he wasn't such a lover of "mediocre camp," he would have demolished it - like he did to a few other songs by the Babes. I ... don't really have a problem with it. It's definitely not Babeian, and represents nothing that they stand for (well, this version at least. It's really weird that such a group of singer singers would have a chorus with one only voice being heard. They're made from sugar - that's for girls made from honey to do.), but it is catchy, and would have fit The Saturdays like a glove. I do have two particular bones to pick, though.
Mikal - you state that, ignoring Freedom, this is their worst single ever. You and I BOTH know that's not true. It's not even their worst lead single! It at least has a chorus with melody, unlike Girls.
supa - you pondered whether Keisha either laughed or cried when she heard this record. Well, as she was originally on it, homegirl had no reason to do anything but SEETHE as a BETTER singer gave a more committed vocal than her sleepwalking through the track.

nnn at me having to SEARCH high and low to find comments on this next one.

5.934
9 - Penk, PeopleLikeUs, Doogle
0 - Maneater (what a shocker, huh?)
Yeah, I vaguely recall this. BlueTimberwolf could "take it or leave it," and that seems to be the consensus. It is nice to hear another voice besides Sabrina's (just imagine a chubby, lighter girl in the picture and you have Tina), but it's all in all meh.

13 months ago, Girls Aloud split up. That same week, another girl group went to number one.
You'll be seeing one of those two groups next!

Thank God.
It's a catchy, fun song and that's all- nothing special about it.

How can you hear any voice in the sped-up mess? They sound like damn chipmunks.
It goes WAY too fast and sounds like a messed up VHS cassette.

Are y'all ready for the drag?
Bluey couldn't believe that out of all of their singles, "this trash went to number one." lovesong said it was fun, but has a "Kidz Bop feel to it." KLatz threw them a bone, highlighting the "proper production," but still asserting their fundamental basicness.
It is basic. They are basic. But it is GENIUS in its basicness.
I don't know if you all are fans of song structure, but lemme break it down. This song has:
Intro/Hook
1st Verse
Pre-chorus/bridge
1st Chorus (led by the remnants of Vanessa)
2nd Chorus (led by Rochelle, Mikal)
2nd Verse
Prechorus/bridge
1st Chorus
2nd Chorus
Instrumental bridge/Rochelle doing something she shouldn't and/or shoehorned Sean Paul "verse"
1st Chorus
2nd Chorus
3rd Chorus (led by Una)
THREE CHORUSES. THREE. And it's not even written by Xenomania.
This song has a buttload of problems. It, like most of their stuff, sounds like 3-5 acts had passed on it before it arrived at their A&R - in fact, it gives off severe "Tribute to Rihanna" teas. The use of autotone is not for stylistic purposes, but because two of the members (Frankie/Mollie!) can't hit the notes. EVER. (They lipsync every time they do this live, while the other three attempt to 'vocalize' over heavy backing tracks.) It does not sound like it was written for a group, because it probably/definitely wasn't. Don't get me started on those 'accents.'
But that third chorus tho. 9.5

Well, when you put it that way Ace.. it's still terribly basic.
I never thought about it before, but I agree that it does't sound like much of a group track.
Those accents are the most catchy part of the song though.

nnn at y'all thinking this is better than What About Genius. At least What About Rihanna's leftovers sounds a little less like a demo, and more like a finished product. Can't say the same about ...

ATOMIC KITTEN - ETERNAL FLAME
5.977
10 - BlueTimberwolf, PeopleLikeUs
0 - Subomie
"Why did this mildly decent cover go #1?" That's a good question, Superiore. Because it bowled over audiences way back in the early noughties, and had the same power over some of our voters. "I never would have guessed that “Eternal Flame” works better as a mellow, beachy love song than a wrenching power ballad," supaspaz wrote, "but it does. Brava, Atomic Kitten, for recording the rare cover that improves on the original." Bluey thought "Natasha's vocals are/were really underrated," and I agree - it's just a shame that the backing sounds like straight up karaoke.

It's a shame that TOO isn't here for this ...

6.023
10 - Regina George
0 - posh
Regina George "thought they would be a joke, but they're slaying [her] so much." Bluey thought their voices sounded "amazing" on the track. So why do they just miss out on the top 50? Maybe it's due to its similarities with another, global, hit. "Um, what is this ET rip-off? Extremely messy and poorly executed attempt to get a hit," posh fumed. Subomie found it "boring," while Mikal became Webster for a moment and cited it as "the very definition of basic." Ouch.

I've gotten into Little Mix a lot because of this rate, but this song stays having one scrobble and shall never be played again. It's just.. atrocious.

Let's count down, shall we?
Bananarama - 4/6
Eternal - 5/6
The Spice Girls - 6/6
All Saints - 6/6
B*Witched - 1/4
Honeyz - 3/4
Mis*Teeq - 3/4
Atomic Kitten - 4/6
Sugababes - 5/6
Girls Aloud - 6/6
The Saturdays - 4/6
Little Mix - 2/4
Two things:
1) One of these groups will be OUT by the top forty.
2) A buttload of ballads are getting cut - some expected, some shocking.
