The Dream - who traded in vaginal metaphors as co-writer of Rihanna's "Umbrella" - takes a slightly more literal approach to the female anatomy as co-writer of this hyperdirty single from Mimi's forthcoming album, E=MC². Mariah's storied vocal range is blunted in favor of generic, highly digitized heavy breathing: "Touch my body/Put me on the floor/Wrestle me around/Play with me some more." But with a spare, slick track composed mostly of synths and finger snaps, beat master Tricky Stewart (who produced Mary J. Blige's "Just Fine") creates the perfect backdrop for the singer to ditch the rainbows and charms and score with a sex romp that went to radio just in time for Valentine's Day.

Mariah's 'Touch' Reaches Higher. After an impressive opening last week, Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body" (IDJMG) more than doubles its airplay and collects Most Increased Plays at three formats. "Body" rocks 32-23 at CHR/Top 40 (up 104%), 27-13 at Rhythmic (up 111%) and 39-17 at Urban AC (up 220%). The track also charges 23-18 at Urban, scoring Airpower honors and the format's second-best gain in plays.
• From USA Today: Mariah Carey's new Touch My Body, which zoomed 22-13 in its second week on the chart. (Could anyone have devised a safer kickoff single than this? It's got the requisite sexual innuendo, a tune (or lack of same) that could have been fashioned by musically inclined robots in some R&B/pop crossover factory, and lots of trademark Mariah vocal runs while retaining the more contemporary flavor of her last album. We Belong Together, last album's lead single, was a significant departure from her past and quite possibly her best single ever. This is dull and dreary by comparison.)
