#007. Illya Kuryaki And The Valderramas - "Ula Ula"
Write-up: After being separated for eleven years, Emmanuel Horvilleur and Dante Spinetta decided to come back together to what it was Illya Kuryaki And The Valderramas. In the 90's, it was a famous band in latin America and they managed to release some commercial singles like "Abarajame" and "Coolo". They split in 2001 and each of them released their solo careers with some hits in Argentina. They came back in 2011, and in the next year, they released Chances, their brand new album. These guys have been given some of the worst critics I've ever read, but I think they have developed their own style and that they are more artists than lots that are well-received by the critics. If you take a look at "Ula Ula", you won't find a great lyrics, but there's funk rock killer instrumental. Besides, the album is pretty good, I think they are the best comeback and the best latin act of 2012.
#006. Paul Banks - "Young Again"
Write-up: Ex Interpol vocalist Julian Plenti (A.K.A. Paul Banks) will close this set. I've never been a great fan of this band, even though I've always liked their singles, but this guy's last album caught my attention since the first moment I heard it. The Base is one of those sad albums that I love to listen to over and over again. "Young Again" is not the exception (in fact, it's one of my favourites). Paul sings in the first verse: "time is disgraceful, we're all just watching these days fall apart, and silence seems wasteful when I know what's coming for me in the dark". Such a deep dark tone would catch my attention for sure! I really love its video too. In the very first moment, you can see Paul as the victim of little children abuse, but then you will see his kind of revenge on them. It sounds a normal video but it's really well done. One of the videos of the year in my opinion!
Coming up next: Last entry of a song without an official music video and the only appearance by the breakthrough act of 2011.
