Glitter wasn't even the reason she flopped, she was destined to start performing badly. I noticed when I studied her 2 albums before (Butterfly - '97, Rainbow - '99). Glitter just did even worst on top of that because the fact most people hate it.

In "Butterfly" her sales were notably lower (past 2 albums were Diamond, and this album went 5x Platinum only) and only had 2 singles in U.S. because of Label Problems. She shouldn't have took another break because Heartbreaker also debuted very lowly for "Rainbow" even though it eventually went #1. Rainbow also ended her 3 album streak of #1 albums (minus her X-Mas one) and Thank God I Found You wasn't actually a big #1. It was #22 on the Hot 100 then went #2 the next week, and then went #1. It probably only went #1 because sales. And that album only went 3x Platinum, and had 2 singles promoted again.

Those were already clues she was dropping in popularity, then her ass took another 2 year break for Glitter.
