July 10th - July 16th, 2009
Sorry it's a bit late.
Linkin Park are in the midst of enjoying the longest run at #1 they've ever had with the track,
New Divide. However, good times don't always keep rolling as
Cobra Starship cozies up in the #2 slot and is beginning to show signs at radio of becoming the sleeper hit of Summer 2009. Also bursting with life is
Green Day who score another top 5 hit off "21st Century Breakdown" with the anthemic
21 Guns.
The Fray are also able to squeeze out another top 5 with
Never Say Never, a track that has gone under the radar in the past 3 months.
You Found Me peaked at #5 earlier this year as well.
On the pop front, the
Black Eyed Peas are by far the most popular band in the world right now, and
I Gotta Feeling bursts into the top 10 with sights on the #1 spot in the coming weeks. On the Modern Rock front,
Franz Ferdinand and
Phoenix are the two most active tracks this week.
1901 is one of those songs thats just going to take its time to blow up, but it will go top 10 Alternative I promise you. And
Can't Stop The Feeling is yet another toe-tapping good time from Franz's outstanding third album, "Tonight", a running candidate for my album of the year.
Speaking of albums of the year,
U2 are also in the running with "No Line On The Horizon", an album that has been somewhat of a commercial failure due to the poor first single choice,
Get On Your Boots which peaked at #16 on my chart. As a result,
Magnificient (#5) also performed mediocre on the charts, and their next single despite a Blackberry promotion will probably suffer the same fate. That single is
I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight and is one of three debuts this week as it pains me to know this won't be a huge hit for them. Going to see them live in September and I can't wait. Another high profile debut this week in
Paramore who are back on the chart scene with
Ignorance, the lead single from their forthcoming album. "Riot!" spawned three top 5 singles in
Misery Business (#1),
CrushCrushCrush (#3), and
That's What You Get (#2); not to mention
Decode (#2) off the Twilight O.S.T. Their latest is fire power rock at its best, and should perform similarly to their past efforts. And last but not least it's
Taylor Swift, who always manages to convince me of her talents with a few extra listens of her light-hearted tracks.
You Belong With Me is the follow-up to
Love Story, which was a surprise hit in 2008 on the chart peaking at #2 and inside the top 30 of the year-end chart.
