Jay-Z struck a serious note Saturday when asked for his words of support for Rihanna.
"This is a real situation," he said in Phoenix at the Sprite Green presents the Third Annual Two Kings dinner with Jay-Z and Lebron James, as part of the NBA All-Star Weekend.
"You have to have compassion for others. Just imagine it being your sister or mom and then think about how we should talk about that," the hip-hop mogul, 39, continued.
"I just think we should all support her. She's going through a tough time. You have to realize she's a young girl, as well. She's very young."
Rihanna, 20, was allegedly attacked in Los Angeles on Feb. 8 by boyfriend Chris Brown, 19. He was arrested and may face charges from the district attorney.
Rihanna's father, Ronald Fenty, tells PEOPLE that his daughter, whom he saw Thursday in Barbados, is bruised, but "she will be all right."
Asked if he'd seen Rihanna, Jay-Z replied, "I don't want to go into it."
Opinion of Kids
On a less somber note, in light of his and wife Beyoncé's appearance on Saturday at the Boys and Girls Club, Jay-Z was asked if the two are itching to have children of their own.
"There was a lot of children in there," he said, laughing. "I don't know if you've been around a lot of children, but it doesn't really give you the itch. I actually ran outta there."
I'm really not pick sides anymore ... they both coulda handled the situation better & i think celebrities need to stop talking about it. They dont realize they're the ones that keep the media interested...
If the media hadn't covered the whole thing, if it was private and no body knew about it, they could have worked things out. But now that everybody knows about it, and it has been a headline for a long time. They are definitely breaking up. They looked so cute together, why does this always happen?
First Britney & Justin, now this? There aren't any (as) cute couples nowadays. Chrisanna was the only sparkle.
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The following statement was issued by a spokesman on behalf of Chris Brown:
"Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person. Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong. While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writings under my name are frauds."

I think it's less likely that we'll see Rihanna release a statement.... she wouldn't be able to go into what happened because of, like what Chris said, "legal issues".... and she doesn't have anything to apologize for or feel sorry for.... if anything, we'll get a statement updating us on Rihanna's condition
