This is literally what I've been praying for in terms of his candidacy for a while now. A Trump-Palin ticket would be hysterically amusing.

It's been my dream since he announced his presidency.
I still cannot for the life of me understand why someone as (relatively) sensible as John McCain would pick her? I was way too young in 2008 to understand politics. Was it because McCain was so center-right that he felt he couldn't win without Tea Party votes? Or did he not even know she was ******* crazy

He didn't know she was crazy. She was only picked because she was an attractive woman who could deliver great speeches. They were trying to capitalize on Hillary's pissed off female voters so they were in a rush to pick a female candidate. They were in such a rush to pick her that they didn't properly vet her, so nobody realized what an idiot she was until after she had done a few embarrassing TV interviews. There is an HBO movie called Game Change about the whole process.

Palin seemed like an almost progressive and flattering choice at the time of her announcement, ushering in a promising new era with the moderate McCain at the forefront of the party, and then she opened her mouth and destroyed their credibility. McCain's too.

Trump is an idiot but I don't think he's stupid enough to pick Palin

Not to mention the excellent novel the movie was based on - must read material!

I'm torn between Elizabeth Warren and Tim Kaine. It's going to be one of them so it's a win-win for me.
It's going to be Tim Kaine tho imo. He's safe, very qualified, and will work well with her. People say he's boring, but the Clinton-Kaine ticket would seem reasonable especially against a toxic Trump-Gingrich or a forced Trump-Christie ticket.

I initially said way back on here that Clinton needs to go the cynical route for the VP pick with a white guy but she needs to excite more turn-out, especially from minorities and millennials.
All the pundits are saying she'll lose Wall Street campaign contributions if she picks Warren, but she doesn't need them at this point. I say she make history and pick Warren at this point. **** it. The risk's worth it. The excitement from other demo's will outweigh rust belt white male turn-out.

It's going to be tough. I think it all comes down to Trump's VP and his position with the party during the convention. First you need someone qualified AT THE END OF THE DAY.
There are ups and downs to both Warren and Kaine, but it's going to be either or. I think Warren has bigger downs (not so experienced in all areas of government, a woman, too out there on the left than Clinton and possibly the country, and the biggest of all - she's from a state with a Republican Governor. We need all the seats we can get come Jan.) She would excite the grassroots movement.
Tim Kaine really has no downfalls other than being boring and not a change maker. Both could work. I just see Hillary not taking a big risk with Warren. Progressives may like Kaine. I can see him bringing her likability numbers up whereas Warren could make it worse in a way. She gives me Sarah Palin teas. Not crazy of course, but so out there that her and Hillary will seem forced.

Good point.
Also the majority of Bernie supporters saying they're going to now sit-out were never going to support her to begin with no matter who she picked.

Both Warren + Kaine will depress minority turnout (which is the only thing keeping the Obama coalition together)
Moreso Kaine than Warren.
Warren will excite progressives in a bunch of reliably blue non-competitive states i guess. No advantage in swing states. Kaine has no charisma.
Both are flawed.

Obama and Trump will excite minority voters. I wouldn't worry about that.
The map is in her favor. The goal should be to get as many voters as possible. Either one would help with white voters. Kaine with Rust Belt men and Independents, which are the only two main group she's losing to at the moment. Warren will help with white millennials.
Kaine would give her a safe win. Warren would be a wild card, if done right, that would excite many voters and help down ballot tickets. But if done wrong could be the worst political move ever.

Who would you both suggest other than Kaine or Warren? Julian Castro?
He's got a TON of backlash from his HUD actions recently which will turn a lot of people off, IMO.

^ I don't follow HUD stuff but there's this: http://www.politico.com/story/2016/0...ent-hud-225003

The Department of Housing and Urban Development just announced the overhaul of a program that had soured progressives on Secretary Julián Castro.

And God I hope she doesn't choose Kaine. He's so boring.

I like Warren, Booker or Brown personally.

No, Castro is the worst pick ever. He couldn't speak Spanish the last time i checked and he's not very telegenic.
I'm fine with either Kaine and Warren. Both aren't ideal picks, but its not like Trump's choice will be any better. She'll be fine i guess

Posting this on here so I can refer to it later (from reddit) summing up Trumps policies
Quote:
A cursory look at Trump's proposals should be enough to make any sane person who lived under the Bush presidency want to scream. Trump has some of the most extremist positions of any modern presidential candidate ever - defund the EPA, defund the department of education, cut taxes on the ultra wealthy by 20%, cut corporate taxes by 20%, loosen corporate regulations, don't raise the minimum wage, reduce the usage of vaccines because they cause autism, stop investing in renewable energies because climate change is a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese, oppose net neutrality because it's a 'power grab from the top down,' deport 11 million illegals, forbid Muslims from entering the US, spy on mosques, kill alleged terrorists' families, sanction worse torture methods than waterboarding, bomb the oil fields of Iraq to get at ISIS, 'close up the internet' to stop ISIS recruitment, stand up to the Chinese in a trade war because they are our enemies, make foreign countries reimburse us for our soldiers and military bases, expand the military budget, believes we could have avoided the Syrian refugee crisis if Obama had invaded Syria... there's plenty more I can keep listing.
Say what you want about Clinton, but she does not even hold a quarter of the views as nuts as Trump does.

I don't see black turnout being very high for one, i think Obama maxed that one out in 2012. Probably low 50s.
Hispanic turnout will probably be a bit higher i guess bc of Trump but the effect of the hispanic vote is exaggerated.
