Avril Lavigne has traded her jeans and T-shirts for black lingerie, tousled hair and high heels – at least temporarily.
Her sultry, grown-up look is part of a new video for the song “Goodbye”, from her fourth studio album Goodbye Lullaby, shot to mark the end of her Black Star tour.
“Here it is #LittleBlackStars! My special video to thank you for an amazing Goodbye Lullaby year! Love you! XO,” she tweeted.
In the introduction, filmed before she took the stage for a concert, the 27-year-old singer sports her normal punk princess wardrobe: long, straight blonde hair with coloured tips, black-rimmed eyes and a baggy t-shirt, as she encourages fans to donate to the Avril Lavigne Foundation, which supports children and youth with serious illnesses and disabilities.
The almost five-minute video, shot in both black and white and colour by Lavigne’s friend Mark Liddell at West Hollywood’s the Chateau Marmot, shows a sexier side of the “Sk8tr Boi” singer.
The video shows Lavigne, wearing a tousled blonde wig, a black dress and high heels, settling into a lonely hotel room and stripping down to thigh-high stockings and lingerie, as well as sipping champagne in the bathtub.
Other teen singers have made similar efforts to reinvent their squeaky-clean images as something more sultry, such as Nelly Furtado with her racy single (and revamped wardrobe) for “Promiscuous” and Jewel, whose “Intuition” was launched with a satirical video complete with revealing shots. Christina Aguilera started the sexy side of her career with the raunchy single “Dirrty” during her Xtina phase, while Britney Spears traded her schoolgirl looks for a lot of skin in 2001’s “I’m a Slave 4 U.”

But a simple thank you wasn’t enough for Avril — she also shot one last video, for her track “Goodbye”. The clip features a vamped-out, totally depressed Lavigne disrobing, drinking Champagne straight from the bottle, and sulking around the Chateau Marmont. It all ends with the pop star sobbing her black mascara off while wearing a set of provocative lingerie. We want to give her a hug… and possibly some makeup remover and a pair of pants. Watch below.
