The only reason why Clinton had too much negative coverage was becuase she was in damage control mode, she didn´t had any press conference or some sort for over a 100 days addressing the email-gate except some quick little interviews from her ally networks. And it became a open wound that bacterias (the media) are drawn into. If she could have been more open and less restrictive like Trump (who masterfully manipulated the media into his own hands) then it could at least lessen her negative media coverage.

Maybe they favored her on an internal individual level, but they definitely didn't reflect it with their actual stories.

Even before Hillary announced her candidacy CNN, CNBC and other liberal media clearly favored her (they even polled Hillary as being the next president of U.S by 86%) but Sanders appeared and the email-gate became worst and worst because of Hillary´s silent and some of the far left began to turn back against her. But still majority of the liberal media defended her with all their might and tried to cover her scandals with polls. So you don´t have to say that she had overwhelmingly negative publicity.
