The usual 70% second-week drop is happening, Danielle. It's sad, I know. But that's what happened with Carrie and Britney, it's now happening with Jay-Z and Chris Brown and is probably going to happen with Alicia and Celine next week.

i know but its just so depressing, if this were even a year ago 70% would still be like over 100,000 wouldnt it? gosh, the biggest injustice i think on the charts though is RIHANNA. she's been working her butt off for her album promoting at every major award show and she's always on tv and she's a big radio artist. and its not like everybody doesnt know GGGB is a good album....something is just weird about her not yet reaching platinum

SERIOUSLY. Rihanna deserves to have one the top selling albums, behind Fergie of course. GGGB is a really good and held together album.
I still feel the reason it hasn't sold what it deserves are: (1) a weak fanbase. She's molded herself out to be only a single/radio artist. Her debut album sucked, but "Pon de replay" was perfect. 2nd album sucked, but "SOS" + "Unfaithful" were perfect. Therefore now people just have this idea that her albums aren't good and just focus on the singles.
That's the 2nd problem. Her single choices this time around. The 1st time she has an album full of hit potential tracks, they release the wrong singles.
"Umbrella" did what it could obviously, not much. I can guarantee you if she would've made "Rehab" the 2nd single the album would be near platinum. I'm not saying that just because it's one of my favorites from the album, but because it's true. With a really good video and promotion it could've been a huge hit following "Umbrella".
After that she could've released whatever and been okay. Poor thing won't ever have a platinum album again unfortunately.

^Not many artists can have platinum albums nowadays... regardless of having hit singles

When Umbrella came out and was #1 for so long and I heard the album I thought everything was going to work out great! I thought her album would be selling like crazy, but no. This album was her best one too.

I know that. That's my point. "Umbrella" was huge, but it sold what it could. But the hits are still a factor at selling an album. If you release the right singles in the right order ppl will begin to notice the album might be pretty good. Especially if you're a new artist.
If you're an established artist, then your album will sell anyways, but it still depends on the singles you release to get new fans and more people to be interested. (i.e. Justin is the best example.) Someone who failed @ this was Bee who released the wrong singles.

Anywayz, you totally right about Rihanna, but it's still unvelievable how GGGB didn't even sell a million yet.

I love shut up & drive but i'm thinking maybe that wasnt the best choice for the 2nd single...i think she maybe confuses people because all her songs are so different that its hard for people to decide whether they're fans of her or just the songs...some people might like umbrella and hate shut up and drive because its more pop/rock...she needs a single that will appeal to everybody like Umbrella.
1 Umbrella
2 Rehab
3 Hate That I Love You
4 Breakin Dishes
5 Lemme Get That

Sell Me Candy should have been a single and left Hate That I Love out in the water!

oh LOL if Rehab was released it'd be the ballad of the album so no need for HTILY. Sell Me Candy would be good <3
She should'ave made a video for Sell Me Candy instead of wasting it on DSTM

I <3 "Rehab" but honestly after the boring HTILY (wich I like too), she should release something very upbeat and catchy like "Breakin Dishes". Then release "Rehab" as the final single. And yes, obviously sheŽll end up going platinum...

HTILY was not that terrible considering that it made her her 6th Top Ten US hit. Breakin' Dishes will not boost her sales like Fergie's cause I think a lot of people in the US hates her.

I read some article stating that Rihannas controversy vs Beyonce has hurt her commercially...I dont think thats true, but its funny to think that America likes Beyonce so much that mainstream consumers will avoid her peers because there is supposed drama between them...haha...some people look too much into things
