Being someone who’s never listened to a Taylor Swift album before, I genuinely didn’t know what to expect, but in all honesty had already decided that I probably wouldn’t like it very much.
That is quite an ignorant assumption to make, I know, but a few years ago I heard her song “Love Story” and harshly decided that this artist just wasn’t for me, so you can imagine I wasn’t really looking forward to writing this review.
That was until I started listening to Red and I was immediately bowled over by the opening track “State of grace.” I don’t know if I was more taken aback because I assumed I was going to hear something completely different, but I liked “State of Grace” so much I actually listened to it three more times before moving on.
“State of Grace” has such a beautiful morning rock feel to it; at times the guitar riffs reminded me of a song that Angels and Airwaves would craft, but don’t misunderstand me, I’m not comparing Taylor Swift to Angels and Airwaves; just parts of “State of Grace,” which share that ‘just woke up in a new world’ feel that AVA never fail to deliver.
The whole album seems to have a narrative swirling around the subject of boys, relationships and exes — the story of a girl who has grown up but is still making mistakes, in some cases willingly but overall appreciative of the never ending learning curve that is life.
Overall this was a really good listen, and I am actually going to buy this album and then make sure I listen to her past albums as well because I’ve realized (yet again) that you just can’t judge an artist or her album on the lead single alone. However, although saying that if I had heard Red’s first single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” without hearing the rest of the album first, I might’ve made the same mistake again, not that the lead single isn’t good because it does do everything a lead single is supposed to do It just doesn’t give any hint to the kind of depth that is to be found on Red.

Some people on Twitter are freaking out because Scott "announced" album 6 by saying album 5 will be released between album 4 and 6.

Great and fair review
Taylor's biggest mistake is that her pop singles do not reflect the general message of her albums, that not only is she a young girl who falls in love and sometimes makes mistakes, but she's also becoming more and more mature with each album, not to mention every record is like a journey, every song is different lyrically yet the same. You need to listen to the full record in order to understand the message.
I can understand she wants to become global and commercially successful, yet it is rather difficult to become both pop-friendly and artistic. Adele may have succeeded, but she's an exception. Taylor must release a well-balanced album. Something that will show her real "me" and appeal to the wider generation.

This a was a review of "Red" from a music critic.
Source: Policy Mic
His last comments
Finally, if you are open minded towards music then their will be something on Red which will satisfy you, and as for me, I can now say I like Taylor Swift!
4.5/5
Best Tracks: “State of Grace,” “Red,” “Treacherous,” “All Too Well,” “Stay Stay Stay,”,“The Last Time,” “Everything Has Changed,” and “Starlight”
I felt the same, after listening to Red, I went back and listened to the other albums. Taylor is genuinely a talented artist.

I just knew she was going to release TSOU as a single, mainly because it was one of the last songs that I wanted as one

that's as bad as the time Swifties were celebrating the CAOTY "win" at the Grammy's because of that interview of Miranda Lambert where they announced Red as the winner in the background. As if they would accidentally leak the winner weeks in advance.

It wasn't that bad idea
Which would you have released instead? Speak Now is a masterpiece, but not everything is single material, maybe enchanted with a good radio edit

Note IKYWT must be fairly close to 5 million by now, as figures from almost a year ago showed it at 4.6 million (US only)
I KNEW YOU WERE TROUBLE 4,597,000 8/11/2013
Anyone got receipts here?
|
No receipts, But I remember chart news posted her Top Singles several months ago and they had Love story, IKYWT at the 5 mil+ mark and WANGBT a high 4 mil, almost 5 mil. .

TSOU didn't have enough promo, it didn't help.
They should have tried to send Haunted to radios instead though. I don't know if it would have worked, but it was worth a try.

You don't say
Although, I think it has more to do with those heartbreaking ballads
And more so ever since "Ronan" And it's about to be Halloween, you could be anything you wanted if you were still here. I remember the last day when I kissed your face and whispered in your ear

Yeah, I read that review previously.
Red is an unusual album because there is such musical diversity within the album. It is hard to categorize and draws from a wide variety of music influences and contains songs that are unlike any other in the album or past discography.
Taylor always impresses me with how strong her albums are - more thriller and less filler. It is no wonder her albums sell so well. She is no 1 hit wonder. She is just a wonder!
