Most teachers don't just want one person participating in the class, so if someone's already participated, the teacher will look for other people to participate as well.

Sometimes my teachers try to get people who haven't participated during a class yet to participate, and so they pay slightly more attention to those who haven't participated yet than to those who have.

Plus, I normally participate a lot, so for me to not participate much for an extended period of time would probably strike them as peculiar.
