Windows has a reputation for crashing period but just because it's not widely talked about doesn't mean it can't happen.

If a windows machine is crashing there is always a problem besides the OS. The OS does not crash by design. It is always some sort of hardware/software problem that precipitates it.

A lot of times it's a combination of both. Whether it be the battery dying, which can cause computers to run really slowly and such or the hard drive.
Curious, did you check for viruses and stuff? Like a heavy search? Some viruses and stuff are hard to detect.
