Maybe they are waiting for the convention to formally announce it. They announced Halloween II, at the 30 years of terror convention.
Or they will just say the project is completely dead.
Though this has happened plenty of times in the Halloween series. After Halloween: Resurrection they were rumours upon rumours on what would happen with Halloween 9. It ended up being the Rob Zombie remake. (released 5 years later.)
