Selected definitions of "yield:"
"produce or provide (a natural, agricultural, or industrial product)."
"give right of way to other traffic."
"cease to argue about."
"(of a mass or structure) give way under force or pressure."
The word can mean a ton of different things, and a lot of them intrinsically positive or negative (with the first definition there being positive but the next three somewhat neutral), so I wouldn't say there's an automatic positive connotation attached to it.
