"Pow Pow" was released as the first single from This Is Happening. It was released with only 1000 copies of vinyl for 2k10 record store day. The video features Anna Kendrick as a "shape shifter" who "collects the souls of wicked men". The more you know.
Best bit: ??? Best lyrics: "From this perspective, from this position / I have a good grip on both of them"
Really y'all? This would have been top 20 if it were on Suite II
The synthpop influenced "Wondaland" is the fifteenth song on The Archandroid. It's one of the more accessible cuts on the album, detailing the plot of TAA, but easy enough to enjoy on it's own. The song takes it's name from the studio the album was released on and also Janelle's record label. Like many other songs on the album, "Wondaland" has themes of escapism, with Cyndi wishing to run away to a place "where dreamers meet each other"
Best bit: The intro Best lyrics: “So inspired, you touch my wires / my supernova shining bright"
Bonus question: Do you prefer Wondaland or Wonderland?
Unlike the other songs on Teen Dream which explore vast, orate soundscapes, "Real Love" is stripped back and bare with just a piano and voice for most of the song. Victoria’s heartbreaking vocal performance brings to life the vivid imagery of the lyrics. “Real love, it finds you somewhere with your back to it” As did this song, which hit me after a long time thinking it was the worst song on the album.
Best bit: The raw emotion in Victoria’s vocals when she sings “I met you” Best lyrics: “There's something wrong with our hearts // when they beat pure they stand apart”
