 | 50. David Archuleta - "Touch My Hand"
Album: David Archuleta
Release Date:June 9, 2009
Genre: Teen pop, pop, adult contemporary
Length: 4:21
Label: Jive
Writer(s): S. Kipner, S. McEwan, W. Wilkins
Producer(s): S. Kipner, S. McEwan, W. Wilkins
Weeks on Chart: 8 weeks
Peak Position: #03
When I first heard this song, I really felt the peace inside as David's voice smooths up my feelings. I'm listening to this song when I'm reminiscing about the past or just taking a rest and thinking over some memories. In that way, it would really be more memorable because of the effect of the song for me. Archie didn't have a high-budget vid for this song, yet a compilation of her fan vids and concert would be an honest excuse. Of course, it's for his fans who were ever supportive of him, so why not be a video in that simple way? |
 | 49. Demi Lovato - "La La Land"
Album: Don't Forget
Release Date: December 16, 2008
Genre: Pop rock, Teen pop
Length: 3:18
Label: Hollywood
Writer(s): Demi Lovato, Jonas Brothers
Producer(s): John Fields, Jonas Brothers
Weeks on Chart: 10 weeks
Peak Position: #06
Probably one of my most or my most favorite song of Demi. When I heard it, it was an instant catch for me, and this song made me love Demi's music more and dig in to her other songs. Anyway, the lyrics are quite personal and reflective on Demi's side, as she narrates her criticism or protest. Funny title, but such an honest song! The video depicts Demi and the media about and around her. Which I think, is a fitting video for the song as well. I just don't get the la la land machine part where it's kinda out of place or what 'cause I always enjoy this song! |
 | 48. James Morrison featuring Nelly Furtado - "Broken Strings""
Album: Songs for You, Truths for Me
Release Date: January 16, 2009
Genre: Pop/Rock
Length: 4:10
Label: Polydor
Writer(s): James Morrison, Fraser T. Smith, Nina Woodford
Producer(s): Mark Taylor
Weeks on Chart: 9 weeks
Peak Position: #02
So far, this is James' biggest hit of his career. Well, at first I'm anticipated to hear this because his song "You Give Me Something" was one of my favorites, but with this one, I'm kinda disappointed because it's a little boring. But as the days passed, I learned to love this song especially Nelly F is featured. The meaning of the song is really deep and the video gives proof of the emotion of the song. A simple one, yet captures the rawness that relates to the song |
 | 47. Britney Spears - "3"
Album: The Singles Collection
Release Date: September 29, 2009
Genre: Electropop, dance-pop
Length: 3:33
Label: Jive
Writer(s): Max Martin, Shellback, Tiffany Amber
Producer(s): Max Martin, Shellback
Weeks on Chart: 8 weeks
Peak Position: #01 (1 week)
First of all, this song's rhyme is catchy as hell. Second, yet another anticipated, fresh new release coming from Britney, and third, another song with double meanings and quite explicit behind. Yet what is more amazing is the record this song has! - shortest title at #1, and debuting at #1 with the exception of American Idol songs. Truly, Britney keeps us surprised at all times after all of the years of her career. As for the video, hmmm ehh don't like it that much, but as always, Ms. Spears looks beautiful in her videos especially the close up shots |
 | 46. Rihanna - "Rehab"
Album: Good Girl Gone Bad
Release Date: December 10, 2008
Genre: Pop, R&B
Length: 4:54
Label: Def Jam
Writer(s): Justin Timberlake, Timothy Mosley, Hannon Lane
Producer(s): Timbaland, Hannon Lane
Weeks on Chart: 9 weeks
Peak Position: #02
One of my favorite Rihanna songs, if we're talking excluding her uptempos. This song is the result of her work with Justin Timberlake, which I'm surprised of this song's amazing lyrics. As usual, Rihanna gives each of her song distinction and this is not an exception wherein her accent can be clearly heard. As to mention Amy Winehouse song of the same title, this is more edgier and deep. Its music video also features Justin as Rihanna's partner, and with all the lighting and fading effects, the video convinces like a barrier that separates both. |
 | 45. Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys - "Empire State of Mind"
Album: The Blueprint 3
Release Date: October 20, 2009
Genre: Hip hop, R&B
Length: 4:37
Label: Roc Nation, Atlantic
Writer(s): S. Carter, A. Shuckburgh, A. Keys, A. Hunte, J. Sewell-Ulepic
Producer(s): Al Shux, Janet "Jnay" Sewell-Ulepic, Angela Hunte
Weeks on Chart: 7 weeks
Peak Position: #01 (2 weeks)
One of the greatest anthems this year and probably the decade! This is also my favorite Jay-Z song among the ones I've heard from him. Dedicated to his place of origin, New York, the lyrics has the vast range of odes and mentions about the life and culture of New York. While Jay-Z raps the agitative verses, it transcends to a top of the summit like chorus where Alicia's soaring vocals are present which makes the song more nostalgic. As expected, the video is all about the place, the theme, it is a tribute and homage - to New York and its greatness! |

 | 44. Colbie Caillat - "Fallin' for You"
Album: Breakthrough
Release Date: June 29, 2009
Genre: Pop
Length: 3:37
Label: Universal Republic
Writer(s): Colbie Caillat and Rick Nowels
Producer(s): Rick Nowels, John Shanks and Ken Caillat
Weeks on Chart: 10 weeks
Peak Position: #04
This Colbie's first single on her second album didn't went much successful as her previous releases, but still it's a worthy delivery that fans must always listen to. This song has always that relaxing vibe in all times, I commend you listen to it to be at peace or relaxing yourself. as for the video, it's very true and simple, yet it shows the reality of love and life. It provides comic scenes too as Colbie's partner is not an unusual one. And yet, the magic happens when she starts to fall over him. This is also one of the songs which I'm never tired in repeating of playing. |
 | 43. Alicia Keys - "Doesn't Mean Anything"
Album: The Element of Freedom
Release Date: September 22, 2009
Genre: Soul
Length: 4:36
Label: J
Writer(s): Alicia Keys, Kerry Brothers, Jr.
Producer(s): Alicia Keys, Kerry "Krucial" Brothers
Weeks on Chart: 7 weeks
Peak Position: #01 (1 week)
After having a successful era during 2007-2008, Alicia makes a comeback again with this soulful lead single. The song has that slow beat that is very similar to her hit, "No One". It underperformed in the charts but still the song proved to be more beautiful than its success. The lyrics of the song touched me the most as it deals with reality and values, which is very true if a person of a thing is not valuable unless its presence is there. The thing I don't like is about the video and its cheap effects. It could have been more of a concept for a song like this |
 | 42. Leona Lewis - "Run""
Album: Spirit: The Deluxe Edition
Release Date: November 30, 2008
Genre: Soft rock, pop
Length: 5:14
Label: Syco, J
Writer(s): Gary Lightbody, Jonathan Quinn, Mark McClelland, Nathan Connolly, Iain Archer
Producer(s): Steve Robson
Weeks on Chart: 10 weeks
Peak Position: #03
Leona made her own rendition of Snow Patrol's "Run" and results to a thrilling ballad, which is included on the re-release of her album "Spirit". I must say Leona did a very well job with the song! Listening to it, you can feel how much emotion she puts through the song which is one of her best recorded vocals too. The song's climax is where the choral vocals can be hear which is a reminiscent of a Mariah Carey formula. The video features Leona alone running through the woods and singing with her heart out as the light around reflects on nothing but the scenes. |
 | 41. Pink - "Please Don't Leave Me"
Album: Funhouse
Release Date: February 13, 2009
Genre: Pop
Length: 3:53
Label: LaFace
Writer(s): Pink, Max Martin
Producer(s): Max Martin
Weeks on Chart: 9 weeks
Peak Position: #04
At first, I thought it's just another Pink ballad, quite nothing important besides the song's message and catchy hooks. I ignored it for a while and never really payed attention to it. But when the music video was released, wow! I'm impressed with it! There's a point where it's the best of the year so far, and truly, it made me love the song more. Pink really defines her music and videos stick their ideas based on the Funhouse era. Up to now, I considered this song really underrated because with its perfect music, and epic video, this deserves lots of respect |
 | 40. Leona Lewis - "I Will Be"
Album: Spirit
Release Date: January 6, 2009
Genre: Pop rock, soft rock
Length: 3:59
Label: J Records, Syco
Writer(s): Avril Lavigne, Max Martin, Lukasz Gottwald
Producer(s): Dr. Luke, Matt Beckley
Weeks on Chart: 8 weeks
Peak Position: #01 (1 week)
Another cover and ballad of Leona is in the list! This time, it was originally done by Avril Lavigne on her album. As usual, Leona made the song with her own style and as expected, a beautiful remake indeed. It is no wonder that she kept singing covers in her debut to test her voice on songs that is suited for her. As much as I love this song, I equally love the video as it shows a clear message of Leona helping her partner escape with their stolen money. And in the end, as she sings the song, the police caught up with her and gets herself arrested, which is really sad. |
 | 39. Jordin Sparks - "S.O.S. (Let the Music Play)"
Album: Battlefield
Release Date: September 4, 2009
Genre: Electropop, dance-pop, synth pop
Length: 3:34
Label: Jive
Writer(s): Chris Barbosa, Ed Chisolm, Mich Hansen, Keely Hawkes, David Kopatz, Lasse Kramhøft
Producer(s): Cutfather, Pilfinger, David Kopatz
Weeks on Chart: 9 weeks
Peak Position: #03
Coming from her second album, this second single of Jordin is her most upbeat yet. The song is intended for party and clubs which the music is new for Jordin's direction. I really love this song at first, but later on, my love for it was lessened , but I still like it. I just don't know why. I understand that the video is probably Jordin's best effort but for me, it's quite boring and disappointing. There's something in it that I loved at first, yet somehow, I didn't like it that much. But above else, I would like to hear this song always and never hesitate to listen to it at times. l |
