You really can't do horror without an unknown evil force pulling the strings.

I guess so but to me it wasn't so transparent in Murded House and Asylum. Sure, it was there but quite a lot of things were happening in the same time, so it wasn't really focused on Rubber Man / Bloody Face. While in Coven, 10 times in each episode it's like "I / You may be the Supreme", "The new Supreme is raising", "We need to protect / kill the Supreme", "You're the worst Supreme ever", "I'd be the best Supreme ever"...
