If Adele sells 2.9 million, she'll sell 42% of the albums in the US for the week, 3.1 million will be 45%. So if she can get to 3.5 million she'd probably sell over 50% of the albums in the US for the week.

2.9 being 42% means that there are 4 million non-25 sales.
So logically there would need to be 4 million 25 sales to have 50%.

I was to tired to try and do any math tonight. I had seen somewhere that 29 was 42% and that 3.1 (or maybe 3.2) was 45%, so I guess I carried over that person's incorrect math without thinking or trying to do anything on my own. Thank you for catching that Friday! I'm better than that!

Well there is one way in which that math would be correct, if somehow the market had a cap of 6.9 million weekly sales, and any extra sales Adele gets beyond 2.9 would be cannibalizing sales that would go to others instead.

Though I do probably like correcting others' math here a little too much, which makes people complain that I'm 'hateful' and 'care about dumb stats no one else does.' I should at least do it more clinically/objectively...
