Okay, so the trash of Amy's singles have been eliminated, along with her best song (Take the Box). Weird combination!

The fact that all of Adele's singles are still in says to me that she may dominate, but we could have another Janet/Control situation
Songs that I would like to leave next:
Cold Shoulder
Make You Feel My Love
Littlest Things
Not Fair
Mercy
You've Got the Love
Heavy in Your Arms
What the Water Gave Me
No Light, No Light
Love Is a Losing Game

Common - Drivin' Me Wild
Average Rate: 7.266
Highest Score: 10 (5x)
Lowest Score: 3 (3x)
This collaboration, the third single from Common's Finding Forever album, came about when Kanye West (who produced and co-wrote the track) introduced the rapper to some of Lily Allen's music.
The video was shot in Las Vegas, and featured cameos by Jeremy Piven, Lauren London, and some basketball player. Lily had a bad experience on the set, forced to wear a spacesuit for one setup - even though she was so sick, she had just taken a B12 shot moments before. Still doesn't defeat the knock this song gives.
Fun Fact: This was Playboy's highest scoring Lily song. He gave it a six.

43.
Mark Ronson - Oh My God (featuring Lily Allen)
Average Rate: 7.281
Highest Score: 10 (3x)
Lowest Score: 4 (1x)
The first single off of Ronson's solo debut, Version, Oh My God, a cover of the 2006 Kaiser Chiefs song, combined his percussive sensibility with Lily's chav chic. The result? A UK top ten, and a release in Brazil - where Allen was bizarrely popular at the time.

You are ALL GOING TO HELL. So wrong for this! So wrong!

If that happens, I will probably burn this thread to the ground.

It's sort of like how "Lucky Star" didn't even make the Top 50 of the Madonna rate. There are just too many great songs so these simply "good" songs gotta get thrown out

Not surprised these mediocore Lily collabs are going.
Wow at Playboy, and I thought I was being harsh on Lily.
Couldn't we do La Roux or Lykke Li instead of Lily? Aren't they British with much better discographies?

Marina is Greek, guess she couldn't be in this rate.
I mean, honestly, who cares if they are a duo, solo, band, or their nationality. It should be based on the music.
|
I thought I was going to have to deal with these two posts, but apparently they've been dealt with.

The way the Brit rates are going, this is how it will lay out:
This rate - the five BIGGEST and MOST IMPORTANT British females of the past ten years. Without question.
The Mainstream Brit Gals - Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Pixie Lott, Cheryl Cole and Jessie J.
The "Eccentrics" - Marina & the Diamonds, La Roux, Ellie Goulding, Nicola Roberts and probably Laura Marling.
Does that please you?
|
On the topic of British rates, can The xx get in on one? I can't really think of who to put them with though.

What kind of attempt at a drag was that? I was saying rates should be based on Artists with similar music.

So why would La Roux ever be in the same rate as Amy, Adele or Duffy? ...

What song do you see it coming from though? With what's left, I don't really see it happening.

Radiohead, but it's kind of hard to pin down their singles, and they're not going to get much response here.

Do not put Coldplay in the same echelon as Radiohead.. . .

Whew, finally all caught up.
This rate should have happened last June, before Amy died, and before Ceremonials came out. I swear if any official single from Ceremonials makes the top twenty... I'd be okay with What The Water Gave me in the top twenty though.

What is your problem? Don't come after me if you haven't even been present.
Shake It Out and Never Let Me Go deserve top 20.

Are you serious? I mean I could see it happening, but do they deserve it? No! her two most generic singles, Kiss With A Fist is rather generic as well, but it has that punk/rock edge, and everyone tends to forget about it.

They are not my favorite from her. Her best singles are Rabbit Heart, Heavy In Your Arms, Drumming Song. But, they are in no way generic.

Those songs are amazing! I gave them all 10's. And I need "Not Fair" and "You've Got the Love" in the top ten.

I'm struggling with how you can classify any Florence and the Machine song as "generic."

On her level, I found SIO and NLMG rather lacking. They don't have the magic that practically all of Lungs has. Perhaps generic was the wrong word. But I find them to be her worst singles.

Thank you.
On a side note, anyone like the Lungs re-release?
A couple of the songs are bland but I think Hardest of Hearts, Addicted to Love, Swimming, Heavy In Your Arms, and Are You Hurting the One You Love? are some of her best.
I like how they don't try too hard but still connects to the Lungs and shows off her vocal and writing abilities.

I agree with the fact that Lungs is better then Ceremonials. I think SIO and NLMG are those types of songs that you either connect with or you don't. The video really made me connect with NLMG. NLNL is the worst Ceremonials single simply because it tries too hard. It is overwhelming.

I feel like they were trying to create too many '2.0's if you know what I mean. Like, they wanted a Cosmic Love 2.0, Dog Days 2.0... And in the end I think things got a little too something.
Not quite sure exactly what though, haha.
