I just said that kind same feeling on my facebook. I think it's a funny promo idea. Like, if she were to go on ELLEN or an MTV special to promote the song. But as a full music video; I wanna see her singing & headbopping to birthday cake logos and stuff. A music video that people can sing along with.
I feel the same with PART OF ME. Uggh, i ABSOLUTELY LOATHE the music video, military Katy Perry? Oh, no no no! I however LOOOOVE the lyric video!
I dig the BIRTHDAY lyric video wayyy much better!
Like if this was a promotional trail with this leading up to the real music video that'd be fine, but this is it. And it wasn't even nearly as funny as it would need to be for a high-profile single's music video. 
The lyric video was so much better.

I love how Katy manages to do great videos that look professional but still has a charm to them, and it's clear she doesn't take herself too seriously. It's refreshing
