April 12th Candids: Hilary Duff Leaving The SoulCycle Gym In West Hollywood

New Interview With Parade Magazine:
Quote:
As Hilary Duff revels in new motherhood (she and husband Mike Comrie welcomed their son Luca Cruz into the world on March 20), she remains in awe of the insights brought on by having a child.
"Right when I really started to show, I would look in the mirror and wonder whose body that was! But then about a month later, I just felt really proud that I had a body that could do what it was doing," Duff told Parade.com. "It is incredible what your body can do. You can appreciate all of your imperfections because you have a beautiful baby who came from you and all that you went through."
When she isn't gazing into her son's adorable face, Duff is trying to help other moms through the Johnson's Baby Cares partnership with Save the Children. The initiative provides "Care Kits" of essential baby products to families affected by natural disasters, helps fund Child Friendly Spaces where moms can recover with their children, and trains health workers in developing countries about ways to prevent asphyxia in newborns through their Helping Babies Breathe program.
"I was shocked by the statistic that 90% of American children are living in areas at risk for natural disasters," Duff says. "Now that I have a child my own, I feel more inspired to help other moms in need."
On the most surprising thing about motherhood.
"The list goes on and on. I felt my heart grew the second I met him. You feel so protective right away. You feel loving and nurturing right away. Everybody always talks about it, about how you don't know love until you meet your baby, and you really feel that. There are no words. It was a really wonderful surprise. And there is no way to prepare yourself for the sleep deprivation and what comes with it."
On pressure to get back into shape.
"I don't have a project waiting on me that I have to bust my butt to get into shape for so it's more about how I feel. I like working out since it makes me feel more clear-headed and positive. I did pilates and yoga during my pregnancy but I really missed getting my butt kicked. But then I read comments on my Twitter page about how I'm waddling into pilates and I go, 'wow, that's a really mean thing to say. I just had a baby three weeks ago!' There is a little bit of pressure but most of it comes from me."
On baby number two.
"To be totally honest, I had a really easy pregnancy and I did enjoy a lot of it. But a part of me isn't like those women who love being pregnant. I love my baby and I miss that feeling of being attached to him when he's kicking, but I was so ready to not be pregnant. Right now, I'm focused on being the best mom I can be and when I start working again, I'll see how I juggle everything. But then again, my sister [Haylie Duff] and I are very close so I want Luca to have someone close [to his age] — but not too close!
On their career plans for little Luca.
"We haven't talked about it too much but since Mike and I are not big people, Luca won't be either, so we joke sometimes that he'll be a horse jockey. He was actually bigger than we thought he was going to be. But we'll get there when we get there and support him in whatever he wants to do like our parents did with us."
On how Luca got his name.
"We don't have any rhyme or reason about why we chose that name. We had the names Cruz and Luca on our list with some others and decided at the very last minute what it was going to be. There is no good story behind it, which is kind of sad. We just liked the way it sounded together. We were thinking of Cruz as a first name and were just mixing and matching it with things on our list and came up with it. We liked the name Luke too but we wanted to do something different — but not crazy. Afterwards we found out his name means 'bringer of light.' I love that."
On how parenthood has strengthened her marriage.
"Despite my best intentions, I have to learn to let go of the way I do things. My mom has been taking Luca while I do pilates for an hour and I had to stop giving her directions about how I changed Luca's diaper. Even with Mike, he's not going to do everything the way I would do it — and vice versa — but we just want the best for Luca. It's helped me appreciate Mike's role in his life and that we're doing things with the most love that we can. He's really hands on and I appreciate any little help I can get."

Hilary Duff, husband Mike Comrie pose with son Luca in first family portrait: ‘We just want to stare at his little face all day long"
Hilary Duff has been spotted out and about in workout gear less than three weeks after giving birth to baby Luca, but don't expect the new mom to bring her tiny tot out to play anytime soon.
The former Disney actress, 24, who posted a Twitter photo of herself with husband Mike Comrie and their precious bundle of joy Thursday, admits she's still wary of exposing her child too much, too soon, to the public.
"It's scary, you know?" the actress told the Daily News of raising a baby in the limelight. "I haven't gone out anywhere yet that doesn't have a gate that I can pull into and I'm a little scared.
"The paparazzi have been so good to me so far, but he's so little and I'm new to this. They can get aggressive!"
Luckily for Duff, who wed Comrie in 2010, both she and the former NHL player are currently at a point in their careers where they have the "flexibility to soak all this in."
"We just want to stare at his little face all day long," she laughed. "It's hard to get anything done."
And Duff's family will provide a good buffer as well.
"My mom will joke, when I pick Luca up from her house after a Pilates class, 'The baby's arms got longer because we're each pulling on him, we're each fighting to hold him,'" Duff added.
Currently, the bubbly star is partnering with Johnson's Baby Cares charity to bring other moms in need of some basic baby care kits, including shampoo, baby powder and wipes.
After she's settled into her new mommy role, Duff said, she'll return to work on a new record she started prior to her pregnancy.
For the time being, however, Duff said she's soaking in the daily achievements of her newfound motherhood.
"I'm really looking forward to the first smile," she said. "Not just the first gas smile. Someone told me that every time your baby smiles, it just means that they have gas, and I don't really want to believe it, but unfortunately that's the case right now.
"I'm excited for that first 'You're my mommy and I'm going to smile' smile."

I love reading what she has to say about Baby Luca, there is some serious love coming from the Queen. I look forward to seeing her tweet when he smiles at her the way I'm sure she does for him.
Even though I wish they had a direct quote from Hilary about her music, I'm glad that they incorporated that into the article. For us, Hilary fans, her music is sometimes what gets us through our toughest times and this is such an exciting time.
Now as long as she secures a guest spot or two in the meantime, to stay active, we'll be good to go. Still hoping she inadvertently follows my plan posted a few pages back.

So looking back at the numbers for her albums, it's very interesting to see where she was, especially for her debut and sophomore album.
Metamorphosis sold 2.1 million copies the week before Come Clean (the video) was released, meaning if we wanted to look at it as single x is equal to y in album sales, So Yesterday sold 2.1 million copies of the album. Metamorphosis has sold 3.9 million copies to date. Using the same logic as above, Come Clean sold 1.8 million copies of the album.
Hilary's self-titled album, Hilary Duff, has sold 1.8 million copies to date. There was only one single released, Fly, which unfortunately flopped. However, thanks to this single and her following after the Metamorphosis album, she sold as much as she did. Now if she released a successful single as her second single (The Getaway), she might not have sold another 1.8 million copies, or she could have far surpassed it. She likely would have passed 2.5 million copies and maybe even 3 million, though we'll never know.
Most Wanted sold around 675k before BOMH (the video) premiered, being a significant down from Fly, but reasonable considering the time that passed since her last proper single. Most Wanted was at 1.1 million by the last week of the holiday season and has sold 1.4 million copies to date. One could argue BOMH helped the album a ton, or the fact that she promoted that holiday season at the AMA's and other events helped it get to where it's at.
Anyway, the moral of the story is her albums sold great off their singles and basically I'm still pressed The Getaway wasn't released and couldn't become a smash like Come Clean. Yes I will admit the logic is a bit flawed in claiming that a certain amount of sales can be attributed to one single, but basically her self-titled album had a great chance at being another 3+ million album seller had it been treated fairly.

That should have been on Best Of, Hollywood Records should have just had Hilary release an EP.

She really is though.
So I've been listening to Supergirl all day today and let me tell you! The vocals slay, her attitude shines and it honestly would have been a smash had it been released as an official single.

Supergirl is a song that is hard to call, on one hand I think the song is good but as single material it seems like (at the time) it would have been a stepback for Hilary as an artist.

I don't know how it could have been a step back from the toddler-friendly, preschool jam BOMH though.
