Pretty Little Liars' Janel Parrish Teases New Season 3 Spoilers: "Everything Is Connected" - Exclusive
“A” is spilling all the details! We just found out that Mona is “A” on ABC Family's hit show Pretty Little Liars and now Janel Parrish, the actress who plays Mona, is spilling the details about Season 3, the new mystery, how Maya’s death may be linked to the “A” mystery, and when Season 3 will start on the PLL timeline.
Check out part one of our interview here.
Wetpaint Entertainment: You’re a series regular now, which is great! Were you worried that this was it for Mona?
Janel: Absolutely, especially because Mona dies in the books. So I kind of held my breath when I read the script and I fell off the cliff. I was like, (sarcastic) “Great…am I dead?” and thrilled at the end to find out that I wasn’t. And of course it was like, “Well, they could kill me in the next couple of episodes of Season 3, I don’t know where it’s going.” And then
they made me a series regular. I’m really excited and I’m thrilled and honored to be part of the cast, and I can’t wait to see where Season 3 will go.
Do you know anything about Season 3 as far as whether Mona has been working alone or there really is a “Team A”?
You’ll find out more about her visitor. There’s definitely a connection there. All the pieces will start to come together.
Season 3 will start 6 months after the Season 2 finale ended, so it’s the second anniversary of Alison’s death. Mona’s been in the Radley Sanitarium for six months. And you’ll find out more. She has a lot of explaining to do.
She’s done some awful things for the past two seasons, but do you think Mona’s redeemable?
I’m not sure, and I’m not sure anyone wants her to be redeemable. I mean, having that villain in a show is kind of fun. I don’t know that I want her to be redeemed.
Do you know if Maya’s implied death is tied to the original mystery?
I think everything is connected. But that’s my theory. I don’t know for sure but that’s what I think. I don’t think anything is an accident on the show.
Do you know anything about Alison and her existence at this point?
Obviously Alison had a very strong effect on a lot of people and I think
you’ll start to find out more back story about how she affected these people and how it led up to everything that’s happened lately.
Are you curious whether she’s alive, considering they followed the book to this point?
I’m extremely curious where the writers are taking this because as we’ve all said repeatedly,
the books were a blueprint for the TV show, we’re not following it exactly. And they’ve shocked all of us cast members with the things they’ve come up with that are different from the books.
So there will be a lot of surprises to come and I can’t wait!
Catch an all-new Pretty Little Liars at the Season 3 premiere on Tuesday, June 5 at 8 pm ET/PT on ABC Family.

Complete Spoiler Guide to Pretty Little Liars Season 3: Shipper News, Surprise Appearances
Even though we know who “A” is on Pretty Little Liars, we still have a lot of questions about Season 3 (which premieres on Tuesday, June 5). What do we already know?
Ezria will still be an item. Showrunner Marlene King tweeted,
"S3: Aria [Lucy Hale] complies and is shocked to see Ezra [Ian Harding] standing on her porch." We wonder what Aria is complying with — her parents’ new rules on seeing Ezra?
Guess the Couple. Marlene played a Twitter game in which she posted romantic dialogue from the first few Season 3 episodes, and asked fans to guess who’s speaking. The first set is: “I thought we could recreate the date.” “I wouldn’t call it a date. We ended the night in the bathroom.” Ezria? The second set: “I thought the point of cooking together was being together.” “It is and tonight I promise we'll make a sizzling Dong Po.” This is pretty hot, so could it be Haleb?
Lucas will be in the premiere. Lucas (Brendan Robinson) made just a brief, yet suspicious, appearance in the Season 2 finale (Season 2, Episode 25: “UnmAsked”), conferring with the black swan and another girl we think was Jenna (Tammin Sursok). Marlene confirmed on Twitter that Lucas will be back in Season 3, Episode 1.
“No sign of life.” We’re not sure what to make of this cryptic tweet from Marlene: “S3: But for the wind in the trees, there's no sign of life here." Now that we know Maya (Bianca Lawson) is dead, we’re assuming this refers to her death.
Season 3, Episode 1. Marlene told us, “revealing who “A” is has sort of given us a chance to sort of hit the reset button.
The first episode of Season 3 feels a lot like the pilot, and it's really fun to sort of reinvent this world and reinvent these mysteries and sort of give ourselves a shot of adrenaline for Season 3.” She also tweeted the potential title of the first episode:
“Title of premiere episode - It happened 'that night.'"
Boo Radley. Marlene tweeted this strange snippet of dialogue from Season 3: “EXT. COURTYARD - HIGH SCHOOL - DAY 'Do we think it's a coincidence that he turned Boo Radley after 'that night?'” As we’ve noted, Boo Radley is the main character in To Kill a Mockingbird, a reclusive loner. This is probably Spencer (Troian Bellisario) or Aria speaking, considering their literary chops. Could they be talking about Lucas? Or Jason (Drew Van Acker)?
Wren will be back. After a fan asked Marlene if Wren (Julian Morris) will be in Season 3, she tweeted, “Yes.”
Expect lots of Caleb. Tyler Blackburn (Caleb Rivers) was promoted to series regular for Season 3, which means more Haleb make-out sessions.
Jump forward in time. When a fan tweeted Marlene and asked if Season 3 will pick up where Season 2 leaves off “or...” Marlene tweeted back, “or.”
So, fortunately, that means Season 3 won’t open with another heartbreaking scene featuring Emily (Shay Mitchell) shattered and sobbing on her front lawn.
Ezra’s brother will appear. Marlene has hinted that we’ll finally meet a member of Ezra’s immediate family.
The question is, will he be a bad guy or a good guy?
Ella and Paige and probably Holden will be back. Less surprising than Ezra’s brother for sure, but Marlene has tweeted about Ella being back in the Montgomery fray next season; Lindsey Shaw (Paige)said that Paige will most likely make appearances, and Shane Coffey has said that more about his story will be revealed.
Can we really wait three whole months?
