Well, 'Roar' is performing similarly to 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' and 'Dark Horse' has had similar iTunes longevity to 'Red', so I'm expecting Katy to sell ~1.2M.

Why are people pressed that Katy is doing 270-290K? So what? I'd rather my fave improve with +100K compared to the last album than my fave dropping from a cheated 1.1million 99 cents deal to less than 500K. I'm not a a pop gurl fan , but Katy has incredible longevity and will probably go on to sell 3 million copies.

For the 100th ****ing time, Amazon bought all of the albums they sold for full price to begin with and then sold them at 99c without Gaga's permission.
My prediction was 350K but I could settle with this. Even with a lower opening week number I'm still going to stan for Katy unconditionally. It won't change my mind that Prism will still be my favorite album for a while (even those undeserved critical hate)!!!

Low on Miley, but not bad so far.
Not to say that these are great numbers. They're not. But I knew from the start that Katy is not an artist that the public will buy albums from in large numbers even with massive promo --- she doesn't have that kind of starpower, period. But at the very least, it's an improvement over Teenage Dream. Capitol might not even mind her less than stellar album sales since her singles sales are so astronomical.

I can't speak for others, but I will be disappointed if ARTPOP opens with less than 350k and I will say so. I'm just surprised that people are saying that 300k is "very impressive" when it really isn't. BTW opened as big as it did because of the TFM era (even without those $1 sales it still did amazingly) and Born This Way (single) was less successful than Roar and TD had way more hits than TFM. Surely Prism wouldn't have opened with more than 1M, but something like 450k seemed likely to me.
Decent #s but never in my life have I seen this much time, effort, money and talent being invested into someone as basic as Katy Perry. This bitch is coming off the most promoted era of all time with billions of AI not to mention a movie devoted to how awesomely relatable and talented she is, she has a safe, eager-to-please-everyone image and music professionally engineered for the masses, she has 200M+ AI from Roar alone, her "cure cancer and buy Prism" radio ads have been nonstop all month, her TV commercials for Walmart aka the biggest music retailer in the US have been nonstop all month, iTunes even gave her a countdown to Prism on its front page all month, every radio station literally dropped everything all day yesterday and made it Katy Perry Day…and she's struggling to hit 300K? Total media saturation: radio, TV, print, billboards…and she's struggling to hit 300K?
I don't see why this received a warning when it is just factual information. Anyway, I definitely did expect a lot more than 300K, with all of the promo she has had so far this era. She is EVERYWHERE right now, and a radio queen. Should have opened higher in my opinion, a lot higher.
