I was saying that 300k would be too low for 25, considering 21 opened with 352k with just the moderate success of 19 and two Grammy wins two years before. There wasn't any precedent to the success of 21, and it wasn't a slowburner smash era like other eras compared to it (Alanis' JLP and Norah's CAWM). It was an immediate hit era. I don't get the low predictions at this point. Maybe if her single bombs and there is no buzz, but there is no reason to believe RIGHT NOW that 25 will open with such low numbers, especially with 21 STILL on the charts and selling so well.
honestly though Adele should rather surprise release her first single than her album, she can do the single on a Monday and have the album come out two weeks later or something. I think that will benefit her
also she will slaughter Taywh0re with ease, can't wait

I'll never understand people who say the album was a sleeper hit. It sold 8 million in just 6 months.
RITD was a sleeper hit (in the US at least), the album was not.
And 300k is definitely too low. Maybe 300k for her fourth week sales but not her first.

Right. It was not a sleeper hit album.
It opened with over 350k landing at #1 and only had like a 50% drop, staying at #1 for a second consecutive week. It remained consistent because RITD was everywhere + her other songs were being used everywhere. It felt like an era of an artist with an already big following, tbh.

I think people confuse "unexpected hit" with "sleeper hit".

ADELE KEEPS “ROLLING”
XL/Columbia Diva Set to Approach 300k with Sophomore Album, 21
February 23, 2011
It took a couple of months, but the record industry finally discovered 2011.
Adele’s sophomore XL/Columbia Records release, 21, is on target to debut at #1 next week with the year’s highest sales total, expected to be anywhere from 275-300k, and possibly even higher.
With more than 150k in first-day sales reported by those music retailers who haven’t been robbed blind by Lindsay Lohan, the album will be fueled by a non-stop parade of TV appearances and a full-court press by Steve Barnett and Team Columbia.
Adele’s run began at last Friday’s Today Show, continued with a performance for Late Night with David Letterman and the show’s online site Monday (2/21), stints on Ellen and Jimmy Kimmel tomorrow (2/24), a CBS Early Show appearance Friday (2/25) and a Monday (2/28) slot on Chelsea Lately. In addition, she’ll tape a Live from the Artist’s Den for PBS this Friday that will air later this year.
Props also to Rick Krim's VH1 team, which has been on the single, "Rolling in the Deep," from the very start, with 10 weeks of heavy play, followed by two weeks of Gung Ho rotation surrounding this week's release.
The stateside push comes in the wake of her Brits Awards performance last week, which sent two of her albums and singles into the Top 5 in the U.K., the best such showing for a living artist since The Beatles.
Adele broke in with a bang for her debut album, 19, which came out in January, 2008, and earned her a pair of Grammy awards at the 2009 ceremony, including Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. The album had sold over 903k copies and 1.85 million digital tracks in the U.S. since its release

As predicted, Adele’s sophomore album 21 is set to bow atop the Billboard 200 next week with sales totalling anywhere between 225-250k. The big numbers are a result of pre-orders (60k), as well as huge digital numbers and strong out-of-the-gate retail sales.
I hope she has a big promo thingy like she did for 21.
The only "underperformance" I expect from 25 are the singles. The lead will probably be a decent sized hit but I'm not expecting any number 1 singles (unless she does a big promo spot for one of them).
But she won't need hit singles at this point anyways.
Adele is amazing though her music doesn't have much replay value for me. I was OBSESSED with 21 for like 3 months after it came out but I barely listen to it now.
Okay seriously. What has Britney ****ing Spears done in her life other than sit around and be the female Milli Vanilli while her marketers hire five year old pre-pubescent boys to sing her tracks. Her body was never good in the first place and today looks like a blonde elephant on crack strapped in a shining leotard stamped "107K" with ripped jeans and a writing credit for accidentally screwing up the lyrics because she can't read. Let's not forget her "dark" album which sounds like a load of The Wiggles b-sides produced by DJWS and her Toddlers-In-Tiaras-level dancing. The next step in her career is to disappear from the album cover, that way all that's left is a name and a body to look at in Las Vegas while a broken radio from 2005 plays the ear-rattling music of the has-been pop star known as Britney Spears.

I can't imagine Adele not having an amazing lead single, so she should definitely release one. Dropping the album blindly only helps people like Pepcé whose singles turn people off. We all remember Run The World killing all of the hype and momentum from the IASF era and ruining her opening week. We remember the BEYONCÉ singles killing all of the hype and momentum, causing constant 20% drops in weekly album sales. Hit singles seem to come easily to Adele. Shady tactics to get people to buy a product they don't want are unnecessary.
