experimenting with a bunch of different genres is never a bad thing, and in my opinion it doesn't 'cloud her artistry' and people who say she has no distinct sound don't pay enough attention to her / her music; clearly Ariana is currently at the phase in her career where she wants her music to be youthful, spirited, and rooted distinctly in love
if she's being penalized for showcasing every imaginable side to her that she has, then she should gladly accept that criticism..... what this album does, for me anyway, is demonstrate that Ariana is clearly successful at utilizing just about whatever pop sound she wants to. She can do Bruno Mars, she can do Tinashe, Jojo, Xtina, Rihanna; ALL these pop stars in one beautiful, young package.
I agree
I actually think she experimented but it also sounds like a natural growth from ME. At the end of the day she would have got negativity. had she done a full R&B/Throwback album, people would say it is too samey. It's just her third album and she is still so young, she should not be forced to settle for a sound or direction.
The Japanese Special Price edition running time with 18 tracks comes to 66:31 and Ariana co-wrote Jason's Song (Gave It Away) with Jason Robert Brown, so she co-wrote 11/18 songs which is brilliant. I love Jason's Song (Gave It Away) so much, was everyone expecting it to be a ballad? I was tbh.
Yeah I expected a ballad but once I put two and two together (the title and the fact that she's performed with Jason months ago) I came to the conclusion that it was gonna be a Broadway type of song and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest.
Girls i see the light in Everyday I still don't think it's one of the best on DW, and it's still outshined by several tracks but it's been on replay
This is actually the only feature i don't like, i feel future adds nothing.
I actually love Macy on LML, Nick on Side to Side and i grew to like Lil Wayne on LMLY (probably by force tho)
I knew Ariana was coming vocally, but this rude ass bitch has the nerve to punch me the **** out with this otherworldly production.
RIGHT.
Especially the good sis Touch It which not only touched me but it DRAGGED me by my skull, left me for dead and later came back for the kill during the last verse
Another day, another slay. Blasted this CD at Calvin Klein for about 8 hours. Positive feedback. Even had a customer ask since we were playing the CD if we were selling copies of it today. Pointed their asses to Target.
I've been here all night
I've been here all day
And boy, got me walkin' side to side
I've been here all night
I've been here all day
And boy, got me walkin' side to side (side to side)
Been tryna hide it
Baby what's it gonna hurt if they don't know?
Makin' everybody think that we solo
Just as long as you know you got me (you got me)
And boy I got ya
Cause tonight I'm making deals with the devil
And I know it's gonna get me in trouble
Just as long as you know you got me
The album is OK to me. I liked my ME better. I just feel like ME had variety and was more fun. Towards the middle of DW everything just melts together and sound like one long song that's neither bad nor good. I do like that it is consistent and that it's more of a grown up sound and doesn't sound like a compilation album so if you're buying the album for say Side to Side forward you won't really be disappointed. You might be if you're buying for the singles and the features (they're horrible). They are the least consistent here. That was a huge issue of mine on her previous albums. I do not like Moonlight as an album opener it is very weak. I kinda wish she had swapped out Moonlight for Honeymoon Avenue. Better yet put it on the deluxe version along with I Don't Care. All and all I'm glad the kid is maturing but I'm kind of disappointed. 3/5.
The My Everything Target bonus tracks are far superior, I'll say that much. Cadillac Song >>>>> Too Inaudible, Flop on Down and Jason's Shlong (Take It Away)
