You're lucky tbh. Is weird whenever a demo sounds betta than the album version but in this case it does. I'm sure it'll grow on me tho.
Is just the demo sounded a lil more upbeat, this one is a lil darker IMO.

the demo version of National Anthem is just so superior. this album could definitely use some levity, I wish she would've left it alone

Me too.
Am I the only one that thinks the second chorus of Diet Mtn Dew is BEGGING to be in a TV promo? I can see it perfectly

Okay coming back after listening to this a few more times, Radio is one of the best tracks on the album, and lolita is still the worst for me.
My top 5 (in no particular order)
Born To Die
Dark Paradise
Radio
Summertime Sadness
Without You
National Anthem comes in a close sixth, but it's tew much that they had to change it I will use both versions.

Summertime Sadness already grew on me.

My track by track review:
Quote:
1. Born To Die - 4.5/5
Fantastic single, the perfect song to put out after her sudden success with Video Games and Blue Jeans. The chorus is wonderful, the change in octave halfway through is KILLER. The production is also equally insane, the army of robovoices on the post-chorus in the second and third chorus are just insane. Maybe could've done with a proper bridge, but that might've been a bit too much on this already very dramatic song.
2. Off To The Races - 4.5/5
I have to say, the vocal intonations on the verses annoyed the **** out of me the first time I heard it, but it clicked very quickly. She really knows how to ride a beat, this was the song that made me realize she could have definite success as a hip-hop hook girl in 2012. I love the song as a whole, but the final chorus -> outro -> string outro is EASILY the best part. Heavenly.
3. Blue Jeans - 4/5
This was the second song I heard from her, it was uploaded to her YouTube about 5 minutes after I discovered her, and I've loved it since. I think it's great, but I feel like it leaves just a bit to be desired. The bridge is extremely strong, but the chorus and verses really could've used an extra...something.
4. Video Games - 3.5/5
So odd that the song I was so obsessed with in August is towards the lower half of my ranking on the album now. It's a wonderful song, and I'm glad it's the one that really blew her up, but there's still flaws with it. It REALLY could've used a bridge. However, it's fresh and different sounding enough from what's out right now that it stands out anyway, and I can't honestly say I don't LOVE this track. But objectively, I can't give it full marks.
5. Diet Mtn Dew - 4.5/5
Man, when I first heard the demo of this song, the way she sang "Do you think we'll be in love" annoyed the **** out of me. I got used to the demos, but the overhaul of the production is definitely a welcome surprise, it really brings up the pace of the album after Video Games. Most improved!
6. National Anthem - 4/5
I'm still kind of mourning the demo of this song, but I see why they did what they did. My only problem with it is that parts of the bridge just seem a bit less dramatic than the demo, and the bridge was what really MADE the demo for me. I also miss the "RED! WHITE! BLUE!" from the demo. It's definitely solid though, and all my friends who have heard it as a "new" track seem to like it.
7. Dark Paradise - 5/5
One of the instant standouts from this album. Definitely melodramatic, but if anyone can pull it off, it's Lana. The atmosphere created on this song is really wonderful, and the bit after the second chorus where the drums go double time is absolutely wonderful. I kind of wish it lasted a bit longer.
8. Radio - 4.5/5
Great hook, awesome melodies, and overall just a unique, amazing vibe. Pulls off the "no bridge" thing much better than Video Games did. It helps that the chorus is just so perfectly catchy and sing-along. This is one of the songs I could see crossing over Paper Planes style if it's placed in the right movie/trailer/TV show.
9. Carmen - 4/5
Probably the most interesting song on the album, really striking lyrical content. I really like the way she sing-raps over the pre-chorus, and the way the bridge deflates and then builds again is really great. One of the standouts in terms of string arrangements.
10. Million Dollar Man - 5/5
Lana Del Rey and swing timing, **** yeah! I love that this song is so heartbroken, but also just sounds perfect for a nice long makeout session. Definitely a slow burn, gets better with every listen.
11. Summertime Sadness - 5/5
God yes. I watched the live video a few times, and was very excited for this song. The drum programming is lovely here, I love the way the tempo switches back and forth over and over. Kind of glad they changed the "drop it like it's hot" line, it was a bit too hip-hop for the song.
12. This Is What Makes Us Girls - 4.5/5
Wonderfully improved over the demo as well, the bridge is much better now. Love the slower tempo and the beat on this, a great closer to the standard album. This could DEFINITELY blow up with the right media placement.
13. Without You - 10/5
JESUS CHRIST WHY THE **** IS THIS A BONUS TRACK? This is probably the best song she's recorded so far. Those beautiful opening lyrics, the break between the verse and the chorus, the way it goes into almost dance music territory on the bridge...absolutely ****ing INSANE. And gorgeous. It needs a music video, I don't even care it's a bonus track.
14. Lolita - 3/5
I really like it, but it's definitely the most... "bonus track" of the bonus tracks. The lyrical content is just plain weird, and honestly, both the lyrics and music don't really accomplish anything Off To The Races doesn't do better. HOWVER, it's still a ****ing knocker and I can't see myself skipping it anytime soon.
15. Lucky Ones - 4.5/5
Why the **** wasn't this the actual album closer? It's starting to seem like the Deluxe Edition is the REAL album, and they just cut the feet off of it to make the standard version shorter, honestly. Just gorgeous, great change in tone from the rest of the album.
Overall: 5/5. One of the freshest pop albums in a LONG time. Regardless of how you feel about her, her image, whatever, when it came down to what counted: the music, she delivered. She delivered on all that hype she received, and then some. The melodies are catchy, the production is OUT of this world, and she managed to create a completely cohesive album without being repetitive. Good enough to erase the SNL disaster, and really could smash this year if the right songs get in the right movies. Definitely not an album for everyone, but if you're a fan of oldies music, cinematic music, or just alternative pop, you've got to give this a listen ASAP.

Just wondering, does anyone know how the album actually leaked? Did some random person just get a copy of the Deluxe when it was shipping?
