The scientific debate is still open. One, why wouldn't your chromosome determine your brain's gender, vs. a shape. That has been up for contention. And I don't want to sit here debating and be accused of hating transgenders.
Your statement that sex and gender are tethered is what is what I think is faulty. Gender identity is made up, juts like racial categories. Plenty of women wear jeans.
