Of course, I honestly think that they should do a fan-voted single. But limit voting to 1 per person. I feel like they'd have better luck that way.
It's not bad idea, but not perfect. Some of us are delusional and would've picked I Forgive You over Dark Side. (I wasn't shading DS a few posts ago, I still think it was perfect single that was killed by worthless promo and hopeless video).
I'm pretty sure that if they done a fan-voted single, stronger and dark side would've won second and third single respectively. So the Stronger era would've been the same. If there was a fourth single, it would be a battle between Let Me Down & I Forgive You.
With All I Ever Wanted, Already gone would've won the third single (over cry) and If I can't have you would've been the fourth instead of AIEW.
Everyone was so confident that it would become a hit. It did become a radio hit though peaking top 10 on pop which MKIA & CMB failed to do so but had terrible longevity and digital sales. Z100 added it weeks before the adds date and look at this hilarious add there was on allaccess.
What went wrong?
ETA: Even KIIS added it a week before the adds date
She was fat. When was the last time anyone supported an overweight pop star? Adele does not count.
She was also fat during Suck and even fatter during the release of Already Gone so that argument is just invalid. The song peaked low on the hot 100 and didn't had a big digital sale because people didn't connect with the lyrics. And because of this, radio dropped this like a ball when it hit a wall at #8.
There wasn't one horny little American teenager out there willing to sing "I do not hook up".
At least she's not singing about break ups and not hooking up lately
And she's about to get slim again. I am so here for Breakaway shape. And I will cut somebody if she doesn't do anything on TV in a week.
I have no idea why people are so head over heals for Long Shot & Don't Let Me Stop You. Both would underperform massively. Hook up was a good second single. All I Ever Wanted only had 5 potential hit singles; Suck, Hook Up, Already Gone, Cry & If I can't have you.
Although I think that Cry and If I can't have you would underperform. Cry could've been massive on country if it was released. It still can be massive. If there is going to be a country EP at some point, I hope a remastered version is going to be on it, and be send to country radio.
Cry wouldn't have been any bigger than Already Gone and If I Can't Have You and Don't Let Me Stop You would have both flopped. They were both extremely dated for radio at the time and Long Shot would have sounded perfect on the radio in 2009.
It's all about timing, this industry. If People Like Us was released two years ago, it would've been top 10 by now. I'm so sad that it's flopping. It won't rebound. Simple as that. And it isn't that big of a deal since it's just a single of a greatest hits album and can be seen as the fifth single from the Stronger era.
I feel a bit tired. Radio hasn't had a break from Kelly since 2009.
2009: My Life Would Suck, Hook Up & Already Gone
2010: Still Already Gone (since it peaked in January and had massive recurrent airplay), All I Ever Wanted & Don't You Wanna Stay
2011: Mr.Know It All
2012: Stronger, Dark Side & Catch My Breath
2013: People Like Us
Although there was at least a 6 month gab between the peak of Don't You Wanna Stay & the release of MKIA. 2008 was the only inactive year of Kelly since Idol.
‘PEOPLE’ POWER: Kelly Clarkson’s “People Like Us” is having a good week on the charts. The song holds at No. 4 on the Hot Dance Club Play list and is still a contender for No. 1. On the airplay-based Adult Top 40 survey, the track rises 12-11. On the sales-based Hot Digital Songs chart, “People” debuts at No. 75. And best of all, on the Hot 100 the song makes a 20-point leap, from 97-77. “People” is also doing well on the Canadian Hot 100, where it’s up 44-35.
Imagine if don't let me stop you was indeed released as second single, Kelly's voice would be so strained doing the international promo she was doing at the time the second single was released.

The fact that the video release was the only reason for it's 20 point bump. She's doing all these Microsoft opening and they can't even help her out by using PLU in one of their ads. She should have written that in the contract. Too bad she doesn't give a **** cuz all she wants to do is "have fun" and "perform" for people.
