I remember at the beginning of the year in an interview Kelly was talking about 3 potential country singles they have to pick from. She had said how YAGLT sounds like a summer song. I wonder if they had planned to release another country single in the summer, and that's why they booked her for several country gigs this summer?

I don't think it was "confirmed" it sounded more like they were thinking/talking about it.


I think they're saving it for the next era. Makes more sense to save the new stuff for the new album.

'American Idol' Reboot Chaos: Top Producers Nigel Lythgoe, Ken Warwick Out (Exclusive)

Jennifer Hudson's negotiations are over and a deal has been hammered out. One individual with knowledge of the negotiations told TheWrap that she would receive a $5.5 million salary while the executive said it's more like $4 million. But, Fox has yet to actually execute the contract.

What are they waiting for?

First, there's the absence of a top unscripted executive to give his or her thumbs up. Second, they're waiting on Kelly Clarkson.

Yes, the show's inaugural winner, who's arguably its best example of how a win on the Fox compeition can mean not only hits, but longevity in the business. She's also very popular with "Idol's" core audience -- a group the network wants to desperately win back.

Clarkson has been floated as a candidate since the news broke in May that "Idol" was looking for a panel of alums for Season 13. Both insiders confirm that Clarkson has been contacted by the show to gauge her interest. But Clarkson's reps confirmed again on Tuesday that "Kelly is not doing 'Idol'."

So, one would think with Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson's exits, Hudson's deal waiting to be executed and Clarkson expressing interest in the job that "Idol" is only one person away from completing its all-alum judging panel.

Of course, it's not that easy. The producers are still considering having just one former contender return -- maybe keeping Keith Urban on and finding one or two other artists. And by the way, if it does decide to go with just one alum, then Clarkson makes better sense as their No. 1 choice, which may further explain why they're holding off on fully executing Hudson's agreement.

I want her to do it as much as I don't want her to. Idol is a HUGE responsibility and takes up a lot of time, Nicki Minaj said in an interview with Ellen that she was shocked at how much time it takes away from your schedule. With Kelly releasing an album next year it just wouldn't work:

If she releases it in Q1/Q2, then she will have to wait to do outside promo until after Idol is over.

If she releases it in Q3/Q4, then promo will still be hard to do.

Touring would also take a serious hit. The best option then would be to release it in Q2, towards the end of idol (but auditions are held during the summer if she decides to come back or is contractually obligated to).


The only reason I would want her to do it is to get exposure, but it just seems like too much for a current artist. Jennifer Hudson is a great choice because she doesn't do much in the music industry.

EDIT: Hollywood Rounds are also held in December....

Since she's going in the studio again with a country producer it seems she's scrapped the Pop album after the underperformance of CMB/DR/PLU.

I still think we shouldn't write PLU as a flop just yet. It's not doing great, but just give it time. Kelly just needs to promote the song more than anything else.

Kinda random.... but I wonder if they'll ask Kelly to sing the national anthem at one of the upcoming NBA Finals games? The San Antonio Spurs are in the final. Even though it's not her home team (the Dallas Mavs are), it's still a TX team. I hope they ask her. She's become the go-to national anthem singer for sporting events.

Well they would pay her so....


I think once VH1 debuts PLU on the countdown and it debuts on AT40 (pop), sales will start to pick up on itunes, it's just pop radio that's lacking.
