Given that "the red" and "the velvet" aren't true concepts by SM for the group - only their latest releases - it's not as black and white to say "this whole release is velvet/red". The Ice Cream Cake mini was a clear mix of the two, if we're gonna divide up their music. I mean how could you say that a song as quirky, energetic and schizophrenic as ICC is from the velvet concept?
For the record, if I had to then I'd divide it as so:
Happiness
Be Natural
Ice Cream Cake / Stupid Cupid
Automatic / Somethin Kinda Crazy / Take It Slow / Candy
The Red
The Velvet
Actually having done that, I'm surprisingly happy with the way SM divided up The Red and The Velvet releases. The singles were a clear line, while Ice Cream Cake had a somewhat divided mix (I'd even say Somethin Kinda Crazy is more the red than the velvet). But then SM totally cleared it up with an album lacking ballads in The Red, followed by an album of entirely sensual/ballad-type songs in The Velvet.
Clever.
