Something similar happened to me (but on a different subject). When I started writing my weather articles four years ago, the Storm Team 8 Team, the NBC affiliate down here in Tampa Bay, started following me almost right away. I used the term "coverage" of precipitation instead of "chance" in my pieces, as that's what the percentages actually refer to in forecasts. Within a week or so I heard the station begin to interchange chances with coverage, and Channel 8 had not used that term before.
Edit: I consider this on topic, since it's in response to what Superpower said and what had happened to her, but we'll wait and see if the moderators feel the same way (hopefully they'll see the relation too and not give me a point).
