It doesn't really
get you scholarships. Some volunteer places do have scholarships available which you can apply for. But if you want a scholarship, volunteer work is a HUGE component of it, more so than college admissions. There was a local medical scholarship of $2,000 each given to 3 students from my school and I had a higher ACT than all 3 of them, higher GPA than 1 of them, and am going to actual medical school unlike any of them, but I didn't get one because I had very limited volunteer work
