I don't know if they're "haters" so much as "dislikers" of her rap style. People are entitled to their opinions. Just because they don't like her rapping style doesn't mean they hate her.
Recognising that her accent in interviews is completely different to the way she raps on stage isn't flame bait or hate. It's just recognition of a fact. Her accent when she raps isn't her real accent. Why is saying that considered hate by some?
Being famous doesn't make you exempt, so can you explain this:
Literally one Google search on K Michelle and this came up. Y'all stay doing the most on Iggy though, right.
You cannot pull up any surprising information on K Michelle. Everyone knows K Michelle is ratchet, including herself. I mean, did you not watch Love and HipHop?
The difference between Iggy and she is, she can actually admit to being a ratchet queen. Has Iggy taken any ownership to her subtle racist remarks on twitter?
Here's another example of an Australian rapper, Seth Sentry
And he's white. In fact pretty much all Australian rappers are white. But none of them try an mask their accents like Iggy Azalea does. And this guy is huge. He's constantly on Triple J and has even charted in the Triple J Hottest 100 in recent Australia Days (which is a really, really big deal here).
There's heaps of others too, Bliss n Eso, Melbourne Sounds, Pez, 360, just to name a few.
I think Iggy would be copping a lot less slack if she just rapped in her normal Australian accent. It'd make her sound interesting. I mean, it works for MIA and Lady Sovereign (when Lady Sovereign was actually around) - I know they're English and not Australian, but I mean...why fake an accent for your entire career. I just don't get it.
The criticism against Iggy is justified honestly. Most hip hop artists use the genre as an outlet to talk about their life, real life experiences. Then you have this white girl from a small australian country town and literally everything about her is arguably fake.
I've seen some describe her as a pretty white girl (palatable) version of a black female hip hop artist, specifically catering for white people, even suggesting that it's the reason she has found success amongst other hip hop girls. I personally don't have an issue with her, but I do find the discussion surrounding Iggy thought provoking.
1. Iggy was rapping like that before T.I. discovered her.
2. K. Michelle is spot on regardless of Iggy's chart positions.
3. This is history repeating itself (i.e the Elvis dilemma)
A lot of you guys are disconnected from hip/rap.black culture and you're on the outside looking in. But what Iggy Azalea is doing is horrendous. And the fact use guys call K Michelle a "hoodrat" but praise/excuse Iggy Azalea persona is laughable.
Her having a number one single doesn't excuse her exploiting black culture. No if, ands or buts about it.
Iggy stans need to be prepared. The more popular she becomes, the more people will question her authenticity and her fake accent.
Just like Macklemore, when and if she gets to a certain point she will be crucified even worse. Those old tweets are gonna come back to haunt her. We're just internet kids popping our sht and we passed that around on the internet, but those tweets didn't hit beyond that. When they do tho...
but I do find the discussion surrounding Iggy thought provoking.
This so much.
I just wanted to say thanks to the mods for not closing down this thread. It's a really engaging conversation that everyone's having, and well done to though mature enough to discuss it without flame-baiting. It's a very interesting topic and one that she's going to have to deal with for her entire career, unless she starts rapping in her Australian accent.
