UPDATED – OCTOBER 31, 2016 – Viola Davis enters this category, after a submission to SAG in Supporting Actress. With that, it can be very tempting to say that this is all said and done but first, the movie needs to be released and liked. Secondly, Oscar needs to buy the categorization. Naomie Harris could still come on strong with the precursors while Nicole Kidman achieves great heights in “Lion.” Starting to get a suspicion that Michelle Williams could end up missing out in the end a la Julianne Moore for “A Single Man.” Very little screen time, like the one Williams has, can be hard to overcome, especially if she’s not winning this time around.
