But it takes the novelty factor out of it. It's looking like the video is gonna be amazing, usually it works best to drop it on vevo and collect as many debut streams as possible. It could help the song peak higher. Sigh.

Just look at how slow it's taking for SOL to rack up views, it was screwed by the Apple Music premiere

Unlike others, Selena doesnt peak release week. The song will have a long life and will peak high anyways.
Flops pray for first week streams, discounts, 10 performances. [And then the song plummets off the charts.]
Selena just wins in the end. The song will smash no matter the VEVO Views. Just like GFY & SOL.

+1. plus a music video is promo, you shouldn't make it exclusive, you should make it as accessible to the GP as possible.

No it won't If you really believe so few people watch it on Apple Music, then it won't stop people from watching it on Vevo later. On the flip side, lots of people watching it on Apple Music will count for the Hot 100 so she really can't lose. Apple is clearly dedicated to having exclusive content which will eventually lead to Vevo views meaning less since they're so easy to get, Selena's simply one of the first artist to join them.

Media coverage for the video come when the video is released. it won't matter later because sites will no longer be reporting on it. whatever, its not gonna KILL the song, but it's gonna slow down its potential. it's a really dumb decision by her team.

I swear this is without a doubt the most negative fanbase on this site. Like Revival is amazing, GFY and SOL are doing amazing, what more do you want??? Just stop complaining and trust Selena and Interscope, cause so far they have done pretty excellent.

This tbh. I love the way this era has been handled, the slayage starts slowly but it's progressive and steady and it makes everything more exciting, all the other eras nowadays are about the initial hype and then a huge gap between singles with the artist's relevance going up and down throughout the era which leads to insecurity and fear among the fans who don't know if their fave will slay or flop hard with the next single.

exclusive mv premieres are never a good idea. ever.

still this does not mean the song won't peak high and have success. it's just you will always remember ... in the back of your head, that no matter what Hands To Myself will do on the charts it could of done better. thats the frustrating part about exclusive mv's.

The dramatics. They aren't "dumb". They're effectively building her brand with two of the biggest industry empires. There has to have a comprise by offering exclusives if they want Selena to be featured at Apple's huge conferences and commercials promoting new iPhones, get Apple Music exposure and have Beats play her music in their commercials and feature her on huge billboard in Times Square. Having the backing of Apple and Beats is huge, only a few artists get that, and big artists should be on their good sides. She wouldn't have got that if it wasn't for Interscope.

The only thing her team are dumb with is timing, but that's all down to the fact they completely underestimated her this era. Them not having anything planned for GFY because in their head it wouldn't do anything chart wise and was just a buzz single, them planning ahead with HTM overload in December because they didn't think SOL would last this long and be reaching new peaks three months after release. The success was a surprise for them.
