Mariah set the trend for these glossy, larger than life Divas collaborating with rappers yall can look that up. Please dont use Janet as an argument because I love and respect her but Mariah really did bring the Pop Diva + Male MC's into the mainstream. For melismatic style of singing "Vision of Love" is cited as Magna Carta of Melisma. Oh and how many popstars have been named the "Next/New Mariah" that alone is a testament enough of how these trends of beautiful girl next door with that can hit high notes and is very marketable, will always be associated with Mariah.
She wasnt up until 1995 and she really made those Rap/pop fusion type of songs super popular. They existed before she did it, but she took it to a whole new level... Fantasy was a monster hit.
Another trend she did was putting actual effort into remixes.. resinging them and re-working the whole song into a completely different one: best example Thank God I Found You or My All ---> Make It Last Forever and My All/Stay Awhile.
nobody does remixes like she does. it is mostly cheap cut n paste (mariah also has her fair share of those), but she was one of very few acts to actually completely re-working a song. She did that up until 2009 for several of her singles. I still Believe (Pure Imagination) is the best of such remixes.
Ironically she hardly hops on trends. She once said she doesn't live in the Hollywood Bubble. This shows pretty well with her absence from the paparazzi or other unimportant public events.
She didn't jump on the Dance-Pop trend nor on the Indie trend that was happening years ago. She always stayed true to her genre despite starting out as an R&B artist.
Also, since she's been doing acrobatics on stage many pop girls seem to be following. That's probably the most unique thing P!nk has incorporated into her style.
She has never followed trend (besides her first album and Try this where linda perry said she was jumping on the punk trend)
But Nobody really wants to follow pink. The only thing that she has done that was innovate was the acrobatic **** she doers in basically EEVVEERRRYYY performance but besides that one performance of Unconditionally nobody has done that.
Love her but their needs to be a neither category because she's not a leader or a followers she just shows up every two to three years then fades away only to return again.
